Shipment Management

Release Schedule Instance

This action is accessed via Buy Shipments. Click Actions > Operational Planning > Utilities > Release Schedule Instance.

This action releases static, dynamic, and detachable trips created in the Ground Schedule Manager. Trips create empty shipments for a predetermined route so that order releases can be moved to them in the future.

Additionally, the results screen will show not only the release schedule information but also shipments that are affected by driver assignment for detachable trips.

When this action is executed, the following takes place:

  • The trip is rated.
  • The trip is re-driven for accurate stop times unless the Fixed Arrival and Fixed Departure check boxes are selected on the detachable ground schedule.
  • Any optional trip stops that are not used are removed.
  • The status of the shipment is changed to RESERVATION_CLOSED. The Move Order to Shipment functions are only done when the shipment status is RESERVATION_CLOSED.
  • A driver will be assigned to closed ground schedule shipments based on the Driver/Driver Profile defined on the Ground Schedule. The Driver ID will take precedence and if one is not specified, the best driver from the Driver Profile will be assigned. No driver assignment will take place for ground schedule shipments of types static, dynamic, or ground service.
  • For detachable schedule instances, the system will assign the best equipment available in the same manner as the Assign Best Equipment Group agent action. The system will NOT reassign the equipment group if you select the Fixed Equipment Group check box on the ground schedule. However, it will verify the validity of the equipment group.

Note: For Detachable Trips, downstream shipments will be redriven to calculate service time on the shipment after removing any optional or empty stops, assigning a service provider, and rerating.
