Describes installation sequence for adding optional public network PCIe cards to the Oracle Database Appliance X8-2.
The Oracle Database Appliance X8-2 series systems support up to three optional public network cards (or three network cards per node if you have an X8-2-HA).

If possible, order any optional public network cards when you initially buy the system and have the cards factory installed.

If your Oracle Database Appliance is running software release 18.7 and you want to add optional public network cards after your appliance has been delivered from the factory, the following rules apply:

All optional network cards should be installed BEFORE you initially power-on the system and install system software. Once the system is provisioned and running, adding PCIe cards afterwards will require that you perform clean-up, redeploy the appliance software, and restore the database from a backup.

All optional network cards must be the same type and model (refer to the table below).

You must install optional network cards in the proper order and slots (refer to the table below).

If your Oracle Database Appliance is running software release 18.8, 19.6 or later version and you want to add or replace public network cards after your appliance has been delivered from the factory, the following rules apply:

You can install any of the supported network cards listed in the table below.

If you want to replace an existing network card, you must first delete the network card and its network interface using the appliance oftware. Then replace the physical network card with the new one. When the appliance is restarted the new network card will be used. For specific instructions on software removal or configuration of a public network card, refer to the Deployment and User's Guide.
Note:
You cannot replace the factory installed public network card installed in PCIe slot 7. Also, for the Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA, you cannot replace the factory installed cluster interconnect network card installed in PCIe slot 1.
