Asset Abandonment

When a previously synchronized GIS feature is marked as abandoned in the GIS system, the next synchronization process detects these changes as an Abandonment operation that results in the following changes:

  • The corresponding asset location is marked inactive.

  • The corresponding asset is retired.

  • If the asset is not allowed to be left in place based on current location’s type the asset is moved to the default out of service location defined on the Esri WAM Integration master configuration record.

Note: For the synchronization process to detect any change made to a previously synchronized feature the latter must retain its unique global identifier as it is the only cross reference to the corresponding entity in the system. This includes abandonment. Therefore, the abandoned feature in the GIS system must be marked as abandoned in such a way that it does not lose its unique global identifier. Moving an abandoned feature to another class would cause it to be assigned a new global identifier and therefore is not a supported method for abandonment. The feature can be moved between layers of the same feature class as needed as this technique retains its global identifier.

The synchronization process looks for a designated “abandonment” GIS field and a corresponding “abandonment” value on the GIS feature to mark the feature as abandoned. The “abandonment” GIS field and value combination are configured on the Esri WAM Integration master configuration record.
