3 Metadata Browser Overview

This chapter helps you to navigate through the Metadata Browser and guides you in tracing the source of the metadata. The Metadata Browser function allows you to view and analyze all aspects of the metadata used in OFSAAI. It provides extensive browsing capabilities of metadata, helps in tracking the impact of changes to metadata, and trace through to the source of the originating data.

Figure 3-1 The Metadata Server Component with Other OFSAA Components

The Metadata Server Component with Relation to Other OFSAA Components This illustration describes the flow of information between the three tiers: Web, Application, and Database. The Web tier is made up of the http server using Tomcat, IHS, or Oracle-http-server. The Application tier consists of webservers such as WebSphere, WebLogic, and Tomcat. It also has engines such as Aggregation, Modeling, Rules, and CFE/PA. The Application tier consists of more components such as metadata server, BPEL PM, and OBIEE reporting server. The Application and Web tier are connected through SOAP protocols and servlets to exchange data. The database tier is made up of the config schema, application schemas, BPEL schema, and Essbase. The Database tier communicates with the Application tier using connectivity protocols such as JNDI, JDBC, ODBC, and OCI.
