Confidentiality

Confidentiality settings are intended to give patient portal users the ability to restrict potentially sensitive information from view by their proxies (sometimes known as authorized representatives). Proxies are individuals who have legal authority to act on behalf of a patient to support their care.

Proxy relationships are established in Oracle Health Patient Administration. Those permissions generate an invitation and enrollment process to create the connection in the Patient Portal.

To access confidentiality settings, select Confidentiality from the Global Settings page and then enter the adult age and minor age based on your jurisdiction's laws or your organization's policies, and then select Save.

  • Adult Age: The adult age is the age at which a minor legally becomes an adult. When a minor reaches this age, an option becomes available from the Settings menu in the Patient Portal, and they can select what information they want to restrict from their proxies. By default, the adult age is 21. Enter the adult age in the Display Adult Age box.
  • Minor Age: The age at which minors in some jurisdictions can prevent their proxies from viewing certain categories of healthcare information is known as the protected status age. When a minor reaches the protected status age, an option becomes available to them from the Settings menu in the Patient Portal, and they can select what category of information they want to restrict. When a proxy tries to access restricted information, they receive an error message.
