Mail Settings

This page enables you to select the mail client for the Send Mail feature in WebCenter Portal. It includes the following sections:

Default Mail Client for Send Mail

The Send Mail feature allows users to notify others about a particular WebCenter Portal feature. For example, a user viewing an announcement in can click the Send Mail icon to email that announcement. After clicking the icon, a standard, prepopulated mail window appears containing information including the announcement text, author, date created, and location. The mail is addressed to the members of the portal. If the portal is configured with a distribution list, then it is addressed to the distribution list. Users can edit and add to the mail, as necessary.

The Send Mail feature works with WebCenter Portal's Mail service, even if the local mail client is not configured in your application. The local mail client is the default.

Element Description

Local Mail Client

The local mail (mailto) client opens a new mail message window in your mail application.

WebCenter Portal's Mail Service

WebCenter Portal's Mail service opens the Mail Compose window. Users can view the prepopulated attachment, add other attachments, and add text to the compose window.

Note:

With the Internet Explorer browser, Send Mail notifications are garbled for many non-English languages. When multibyte characters are encoded (required for the "mailto:" protocol), the URL length exceeds the Internet Explorer limit. As a workaround, configure the Send Mail feature to use WebCenter Portal's Mail Service instead of the local mail client.

Override

Select the check box to enable users to override the default mail client setting.
