People Connections Settings

This page is for setting application-wide defaults for People Connections features. In some cases, you can enforce the values you specify here or enable users to override these values with their own settings on the People Connections Preferences. The People Connections page is also for enabling or disabling users from changing their application password (for more information, see Profile).

Setting default values on this page affects all users' views of People Connections features. There are a few other levels at which these values can be set that follow an order of precedence:

  • Administrative settings on this page affect all users' views of People Connections features.

  • Preferences settings on the People Connections Preferences affect the view of the user who set them, and they override administrative settings.

  • Settings on a particular task flow affect just that task flow instance, and they override Preference settings:

    • Values set in page edit mode (application customization) affect all users' views of that task flow instance.

    • Values set in page view mode (user customization) affect only that user's view of that task flow instance, and they override task flow customizations.

    More

The People Connections page provides access to settings for the following features:

Activity Stream

The Activity Stream tab is for specifying the users from whom activities are streamed, whether to stream activity from portals other than the Home Portal, which services are tracked, whether to stream personal activities in a user's view, and whether to provide an opportunity to users to like and comment on streamed activities. More

Element Description

People

Options for specifying whose activities to stream, shown in the user's view of the Activity Stream:

  • Only Me—Show only the user's activities

  • Me and My Connections—Show the activities of the user and the user's connections

  • No Personal—Omit all activities streamed from the Home Portal

Portals

Options for controlling whether to stream activities from portals other than the Home Portal:

  • All Portals—Stream activities from all portals to which the user has access

  • My Portals—Stream activities from the portals of which the user is a manager

  • No Portals—Omit streaming activity from all portals (except the Home Portal)

Tools and Service Categories

Options for selecting the default services from which to stream activities:

Services available for selection may include:

  • Blogs

  • Business Object

  • Data Visualization

  • Documents

  • Events

  • Feedback

  • Layout

  • Lists

  • Message Board

  • Pages

  • Portal Management

  • Profiles

  • REST Data Source

  • SQL Data Source

  • Tagging

  • Visualization Template

Each selection has an associated Allow Owner Override control, which you, as the administrator, can use to allow users to override the application-level settings you establish here through their own preferences on the People Connections Preferences.

The activities of unselected services are still tracked, but they do not appear in the Activity Stream. If you select to show the service activities at some later point, all of the activities that occurred when the service was not selected appear in the Activity Stream.

Privacy

Options for setting default user access to other users' Activity Stream information:

Allow All My Activities To Be Viewed By—Specify who can view another user's activities:

  • Everyone—Any user, whether logged in or not, can view other users' activities.

  • Authenticated Users—Users who have logged in can view other users' activities.

  • My Connections—User A can view user B's activities if user B has accepted user A as a connection. User B can also view user A's activities.

  • Myself—A user can view only his or her own activities.

Allow Owner Override—Allow users to override the application default settings for Activity Stream Privacy using their own preferences on the People Connections Preferences.

  • Enable comments on objects in the Activity Stream—Select to enable users to add comments to streamed items.

  • Enable others to like objects in the Activity Stream—Select to enable users to like and unlike a streamed item.

Users can like and comment on streamed items that include objects. For example, users can like or comment on "Jack has updated doc.xml." Users cannot like or comment on streamed items that do not include objects. For exampke, users cannot like or comment on "Jack and Jill are now connected."
