About Deploying Commvault to Protect Your VMware SDDC in the Cloud Against Disasters
Customers need to protect Oracle Cloud VMware Solution environments with simple business continuity and disaster recovery solutions. By following a straightforward process for deploying Commvault in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure native Compute instances outlined in this playook, you can protect your Oracle Cloud VMware Solution with minimum operational overhead.
About the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution
Oracle and VMware have developed a fully certified and supported software-defined data center (SDDC) solution called Oracle Cloud VMware Solution. This solution uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to host a highly available VMware SDDC. It also allows seamless migration of on-premises VMware SDDC workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
This Solutions Playbook details the deployment of Commvault for VMware in Oracle Cloud VMware Solution to protect the guest VM workload. Although the deployment and operation of Commvault in Oracle Cloud VMware Solution resembles a standard VMware process, this document discusses recommendations for installing and using it in an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environment.
About Commvault
Commvault software is an enterprise-level data platform that allows you to back up, restore, archive, replicate, and search data. It is built on a single platform and unified code base.
When deployed on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Commvault protects data by using agent software installed on virtual hosts, which use operating system or application native APIs to protect data in a consistent state. Production data is processed by the agent software on client computers and backed up through a data manager, the MediaAgent, to disk or cloud storage. All data management activity in the environment is tracked by a centralized server, the CommServe, and can be managed by administrators through a central user interface. End users can access protected data through their web browsers and mobile devices.
Architecture
Commvault is a backup solution developed for VMware vSphere and other virtual environments. It provides features for performing data protection and disaster recovery tasks.
The following figure shows a recommended architecture for Commvault deployment in an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environment to protect VMware workloads in the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution.
