To understand how the REST MVC processes work, imagine that a customer would like to add a single item from a catalog to their shopping cart. When the customer, or client REST service, initiates the REST call, the following occurs:
The REST Service uses a URL that begins with
/rest/modeland has been registered with theActorChainRestResgistryservice. In this example, the URL is:/rest/model/atg/commerce/order/purchase/CartModifierActor/addItemToOrderThis URL contains not only the
CartModifierActorNucleus component, but theaddItemToOrderactor-chain.The REST Service also verifies the user’s access using the
AccessControllerService.The REST Service initializes the actor context from the REST control parameters and the URL. The actor-context is then passed to the
ActorChainService. Because theaddItemToOrderactor-chain calls the/atg/commerce/order/purchase/, a
CartModifierFormHandlerformActoris invoked. The/atg/commerce/order/ShoppingCartcomponent requires that acomponentActoris also invoked. Refer to the XML Definition Elements section for information on actors and actor-chains.Once all of the actors have provided the data, the
ModelMapis filtered withBeanFiltersinitiated by theBeanFilteringService. This process modifies the data in theModelMap. Refer to the Bean Filtering for additional information.After the filters have been applied to the
ModelMap, theResponseGeneratortransforms theModelMapinto the response, which is configured to be a JSON or XML response. The response then sent back to the client.
