Setup Checklist

Use the following checklist as you work through the Oracle Sales Compensation setup process. Because each sales organization pays compensation differently, each of the steps in the process is driven by information you provide about how your sales organization functions.

This checklist explains the types of organization-specific information you need to provide, giving steps you need to perform to define this information. You can use this checklist as a mini-guide to setting up Oracle Sales Compensation. Each of the steps is explained more fully beginning on the page indicated at the right of the step.

Step See
1. Install Oracle Sales Compensation Server and Client. Oracle Applications Installation Manual
2. Define application responsibilities that suit the needs of your sales organization and assign responsibilities to users. Setting Up User Responsibilities
3. Define your compensation processing periods using the Set of Books and Periods system parameters. Defining Your Calendar and Set of Books
Within Oracle Applications, Oracle General Ledger is the central repository for accounting information. Your compensation accounting periods are drawn from the set of books you define in Oracle General Ledger, and are bounded by a time frame you set for the application instance.
Set the Oracle Sales Compensation Set of Books system parameter using a set of books you have defined in GL.
If you do not have GL installed, define your set of books using the GL forms provided.
Activate your set of books within Oracle Sales Compensation.
Activate periods in Oracle Sales Compensation.
Periods must be in an Open or Future Enterable state to be used for setting up plans, salespeople, etc.
4. Define collection of compensation transactions depending on your source: Defining Your Data Sources
If collecting from Oracle Receivables: Choosing the Oracle Receivables Source
Specify what data - or transaction attributes - you need to collect in your compensation transaction to calculate compensation in your organization.
Specify the Receivables system and types of source transactions from which you want to collect these transaction attributes.
Provide a map that tells Oracle Sales Compensation where in the database to look for the information you need.
Define system parameters that affect collection processing and transfer of transactions to the Calculator subsystem.
If collecting from an external source: Collecting Transactions Using the Open Interface
Import compensation transactions using the open interface for transaction processing.
Define system parameters that affect collection processing and transfer of transactions to the Calculator subsystem.
5. Set up revenue classification: Categorizing Your Sales Revenue
Define revenue classes that specify what types of revenue your organization pays compensation for.
Define a set of rules Oracle Sales Compensation can use to determine when a transaction belongs to a given revenue class.
Optionally, define other hierarchies you may need for specifying rules.
Specify your revenue class hierarchy name in the System Parameters window.
Synchronize your rules (generate and instantiate).
6. Define your sales organization: Defining Salespeople
    Set up salespeople.
Optionally, set up an organizational hierarchy if you need to roll credit up a management reporting chain.
Specify your salesperson hierarchy name in the System Parameters window.
Specify your managerial rollup in the System Parameters window.
Optionally, define the salesperson descriptive flexfields to define additional attributes about salespeople.
7. Set up payment: Payment Setup
Turn On or Off the ALLOW_PAYRUN_CREATION profile.
8. Set up the sales credit adjustments form to accommodate the types of sales credit adjustments your organization typically makes: Manual Transactions Setup
Define reason codes that accommodate the reasons your organization typically makes sales credit adjustments.
Optionally, set up a descriptive flexfield.
9. Apply your setup information: Setting System Parameters
Synchronize Oracle Sales Compensation's default transaction collection and classification functions with the rules you have defined for these functions.
Ensure you have set all system parameters appropriately.
    Activate the system.
10. Create a compensation plan: Defining a Compensation Plan
    Define your plan elements.
Define rate tables and assign them to the plan elements.
Assign revenue classes to the plan elements.
Optionally, define a target for each revenue class.
Optionally, define a quota and/or payment uplift for each revenue class.
Define compensation plans and assign plan elements to them.
Name the plan and define the period during which it is effective.
Verify that the plan is complete.
11. Assign the plan to a salesperson, optionally tailoring the quota or individual compensation rates, period targets, draws, and revenue class targets. Assigning a Plan to a Salesperson
and
Customizing Compensation for a Salesperson
12. Calculate and pay compensation: Calculating Compensation
and
About the Payment Process
If necessary, adjust sales credits assigned in error before you calculate payment.
    Run compensation calculation process.
View compensation earnings through the salesperson subledger.
View quota achievement, revenue-class achievement, or individual transactions.
Create a payrun document for each payrun.
For each payrun document, create a payment worksheet for the salespeople you want to pay.
    Pay the compensation.
Open the compensation periods you wish to calculate or pay.
