Using myCompany Applications

To organize all the applications and business functions into one unified view for myCompany, Wei uses Oracle9iAS Portal, a component in Oracle9iAS, to build a business portal. MyCompany portal presents an organized and personalized view of the business information, Web content, and applications needed by each user in the company. The portal also includes wireless device access capability for managers who are frequently on the road.

Matthew, a church deacon in a remote part of the country, places an online order for 200 portable fans using myCompany's Customer Orders application. When the order is confirmed, the application routes the order to the nearest shipping business partner that would provide the shipping in this case. A XML document is generated and sent to the messaging queue of the business partner's Shipping client.

Meanwhile Matthew's order also triggers the low inventory alert. Ted the inventory manager receives an alert message on his cellular phone, warning him of low inventory in portable fans at all of myCompany's traditional suppliers. Knowing that a heat wave is on the way, Ted forwards the alert to Eileen immediately.

Eileen logs on to myCompany's portal from her desktop computer. Her personalized view of the portal contains the Forms and Reports applications developed by Sheila and published as portlets to the portal. Eileen issues a request on pricing (RFP) for portable fans to a number of potential suppliers.

Scott, the owner of one of the suppliers contacted, receives the RFP at his warehouse and responds to indicate that he is able to fulfill the order. After he accepts the RFP, Scott enters product descriptions of his portable fans into myCompany's system, using the form developed by Sheila. Eileen places the order for Scott's portable fans and submits the purchase form through the company portal.

Back in the company, Ted uses his Discoverer workbooks to analyze low inventory trends in the past five years. From sophisticated charts and data pivots, provided by Mike who integrated Business Intelligence Beans into the Inventory application, Ted is able to reevaluate the stocking strategy in myCompany from season to season.
