Installing the Siebel Server

This section provides instructions for installing the Siebel Server.

Optionally, Siebel Enterprise Server components can be installed together in one installer session. For example, if you install the Siebel Server and Siebel Database Server in one session, the installation flow will be a combination of the steps listed in this topic and the steps listed in Installing the Siebel Database Server on the Siebel Server.

Before you install Language Packs, see the information about code pages in Planning RDBMS Installation and Configuration, and see Siebel Server Installation Requirements.

NOTE:  The following procedure is for installing the base product. For patch installation instructions, refer to the Maintenance Release Guide provided with the patch. See also About Installing Siebel Releases.

To install the Siebel Server

  1. Review the requirements for installing Siebel Server. See Siebel Server Installation Requirements.
  2. Log on using the Siebel Service Owner Account.

This account must belong to the Windows domain of the Siebel Enterprise Server.

If you do not log on using the Siebel Service Owner Account, make sure that the account you use belongs to the Windows domain of the Siebel Enterprise Server and has full write permissions to the Siebel File System.

  3. Shut down all open programs running on the server.
  4. Stop any active Siebel Server Windows services, except the Siebel Gateway Name Server service.
  5. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Siebel image location for the current software version. Then navigate to the directory where the installer is located.

In this case, navigate to Siebel_Image\Windows\Server\Siebel_Enterprise_Server.

    where:

    • Siebel_Image = The directory for your version-specific Siebel network image, such as D:\Siebel_Install_Image\7.8.2.0.
  6. Double-click setup.exe.

The Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for Siebel Enterprise Server screen appears.

  7. Click Next.
  8. Depending on whether you are installing your Siebel Server for the first time or adding a new language to an existing instance, take the appropriate action:
    • To install the server software in a new instance, select None as the default and click Next. Proceed to Step 9.
    • To install a new language in an existing instance, select the displayed instance and click Next. Proceed to Step 13.

For additional information about installing multiple Language Packs, see Siebel Server Installation Requirements.

  9. Use the Browse button to select a different drive or directory or select the displayed default directory for file installation, and then click Next.

This directory name must not contain spaces, although underscores are allowed.

The installer prompts you to select the product that you want to install.

  10. Choose the option to install the Siebel Server, and click Next.

Alternatively, you can install multiple Siebel Enterprise Server components. If you install more than one component at once, the Siebel Enterprise Server installer and the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard prompts you for the installation parameters of each component individually and in the sequence required.

For more information about different ways of deploying Siebel Enterprise Server components, see the Deployment Planning Guide.

NOTE:  Before proceeding, review the preinstallation requirements for each component you plan to install and perform any necessary preinstallation tasks. See Siebel Server Installation Requirements and other applicable sections.

The installer prompts you to select the type of installation setup you prefer.

  11. Choose the type of Siebel Server installation to execute from the following options and click Next.

For a list of the installable components for each type, see Table 13.

    • Typical. Installs all Siebel Server components.
    • Compact. Installs only those components necessary to run the Siebel Server, but no additional components or help.
    • Custom. Lets you customize your installation by choosing the specific components you want to install.

The options listed for Typical or Custom installation are all selectable for Custom installations.

      Table 13. Installable Components
      Installation Option
      Products

      Typical or Custom

      • Object Manager Component—Object Managers for Siebel applications
      • Object Manager Help Files
      • Handheld Synchronization
      • Data Quality Connector—Used to configure Data Quality with FirstLogic software
      • Remote Search Support—Files supporting Siebel Remote Search functionality
      • Java Integrator
      • PIM Server Integration—Files supporting Siebel Sync Server

      Compact

      • Object Manager Component
      • Remote Search Support
      • Java Integrator
    • If you chose the Custom installation type, proceed to Step 12. Otherwise, proceed to Step 13.
  12. Select the components that you want to install and click Next.
  13. If you are not installing into a directory that has other Siebel components installed to it, select the Language Packs you are installing for the Siebel Server and click Next. Otherwise, proceed to Step 14.

If you already installed a server and a primary language into this installation instance, that language will not be part of the menu. The reason that the primary language does not display is because that language has already been installed and is considered to be your primary (base) language.

Servers are installed, at a minimum, with the primary (base) language in which the server will be run. This is the primary (base) language for your Enterprise Server. Optionally, you can install one or more additional languages.

NOTE:  Before you install Language Packs, see the information about code pages in Planning RDBMS Installation and Configuration, and see Siebel Server Installation Requirements.

The installer program performs a validation check to make sure that installation prerequisites were met. If they were not, it errors out.

  14. Click Next to accept the default Program Folder for the shortcuts, or change the Program Folder, and then click Next.

The installer displays the location into which it will install the Siebel Server and any other servers you have elected to install. It also displays the disk space required for the software you are installing.

  15. Review the information and take the appropriate action:
    • If these parameters are acceptable, click Next.
    • Otherwise, click Back to adjust your installation parameters or location.

The installer proceeds to install the specified files.

A message appears, stating that language files are being installed.

  16. Select one of the following options to continue:
    • Continue with configuring the Siebel Server. Do this if you are installing the primary Siebel Server for the Siebel Enterprise Server. For detailed instructions, see Configuring the Siebel Server.
    • Close out of the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard and configure later. In this case, the installer displays the following message; however, note that you cannot operate the Siebel Server until it is configured:

The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed the Siebel Enterprise Server. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

  17. To complete the installation process, click Finish.

If you would like to view events that occurred during the installation, you can access the log generated by the installer at SIEBEL_ROOT\log.txt or the log generated by the Siebel application at SIEBEL_ROOT\siebsrvr\LOG.
