Creating a Custom Bonus-Other Results Performance Measure

The Bonus-Other Results rule type calculates compensation based on performance records entered in the Employee Workbook. Each performance measure is calculated using a numeric score, but a score can be interpreted differently based on the performance measure. The Performance Measure 1 drop-down list for the Bonus-Other Results rule type ships with six choices:

  • MBO. The score received on any Management-By-Objective measure.
  • KSO. The score received on a Key Sales Objective measure.
  • Customer Satisfaction. The score received for customer satisfaction achievement or rating.
  • Time Available. The score for the amount of time spent on the phone as a % of total time.
  • Leads. The number of leads generated by an employee, or a score associated with this number.
  • Service Levels. The service level for incoming calls. For example, this might be a % of calls answered in less than 10 seconds.

In many cases, prospects compensate on other subjective performance measures. Configuring these does not require any work using Siebel Tools. Changes are made to the List of Values in the administration views of the application.

The following procedures describes how to add a custom performance measure called Discretionary Bonus. These procedures assume that each employee receives a discretionary bonus score or rating from the manager, so the score a manager enters for each employee's Discretionary Bonus might be the actual dollar amount paid out, or a rating that determines a payout based on tiers (this is determined when the rule is created).

To add a performance measure to a list of values

  1. Log in to the Siebel application as the system administrator (SADMIN).
  2. From the application-level menu, choose View > Site Map >Application Administration > List of Values.
  3. In the List of Values list, query for IC_COMP_PM in the Type field.
  4. Click New to create a new record, and then complete the fields with the following values:
    • Type = IC_COMP_PM
    • Display Value = Discretionary Bonus (or whatever your criteria is called)
    • Language Name = English-American (application specific)
    • Language Independent Code = Discretionary Bonus (automatically populates when you step off record)
    • Active = check box selected (default)
    • Translate = check box selected (optional)
  5. Save the record.

Repeat Step 3 through Step 5 for each of the following types:

    • IC_COMP_PM_ALL
    • IC_COMP_PM_WITHOUT_QUOTA
    • EMP_PERF_MEAS

To associate the custom measure with the Bonus-Other Results rule type

  1. Select the List of Values Explorer from the Show drop-down list.
  2. Query for IC_COMP_TYPE in the List of Values-Type list applet.

NOTE:  This LOV type is called IC_COMP_TYPE in the list applet, but called INCENTIVE_COMPONENT_TYPE in the Explorer applet.

  3. In the LOV Explorer applet, click the + sign to expand the INCENTIVE_COMPONENT_TYPE folder.
  4. Click the + sign of the Values folder to expose the child items in the list.
  5. Click the + sign of the Bonus-Other Results folder.
  6. Click the + sign of the Child List of Values folder.
  7. In the Child List of Values list applet, choose New Record from menu and add the following values:
    • Type = IC_COMP_PM_ALL
    • Name = Discretionary Bonus (select from the list)
  8. Save the record.
  9. Create another New Record with the following values:
    • Type = IC_COMP_PM_WITHOUT_QUOTA
    • Name = Discretionary Bonus (select from the list)
  10. Save the record.

To modify the Employee Workbook LOVs

  1. In the List of Values-Type applet, query for EMP_PERF_MEAS.
  2. In the List of Value Explorer applet, click the + sign to expand the EMP_PERF_MEAS folder.
  3. Click the + sign of the Values folder to expose the child objects in the list.
  4. In the List of Value list applet, add a New Record with the following values:
    • Code = Discretionary Bonus (or whatever your criteria is called)
    • Display Value = Discretionary Bonus
    • Language Name = English-American (application specific)
    • Active = check box selected (default)
    • Translate = check box selected (optional)
    • Multilingual = NULL
  5. Save the record.

Creating a Performance Map in the Employee Workbook User Properties

Use the following procedure to create a performance map in the Employee Workbook user properties.

To create a performance map

  1. Log in to Siebel Tools, and in the Tools Object Explorer, select the Business Component type.
  2. Query for the Incentive Compensation Employee Performance Measure.
  3. Select Menu > Tools > Lock Project.
  4. In the Object Explorer, click the + next to the Business Component to expand the folder.
  5. Select Business Component User Property.

Here you will see a few user properties that map the existing performance measures for use in the calculation engine process.

  6. Right-click the selected business component, and create a new record with the following properties:
    • Name = Performance Map:Name of new Performance Measure
    • Value = Score

See (Optional) Making a Performance Measure Available for Rate Calculation Formulas for information on using the new performance measure in formulas.

To select the new performance measure when creating a rule

  1. From the application-level menu, navigate to View > Site Map > Incentive Compensation Administration > Rules.
  2. In the Rules list, add a new rule, and complete the fields,.
  3. In the new rule record, choose Discretionary Bonus from the list in the Performance Measure 1 field.

NOTE:  When calculating a Bonus-Other Results performance measure, the calculation engine will enter a record in the Calculation Workbook, showing the employee's name, position, and calculation amount. When you drill down on that record to Calculation Detail, you will see the performance measure and the score.
