Installing the Siebel Gateway Name Server

Be sure that all machines on which the Siebel Gateway Name Server will be installed meet the hardware and software requirements detailed in System Requirements and Supported Platforms on Siebel SupportWeb for this release.

To avoid DVD swapping, copy all installation files, including the required language files, to a common installation directory within your system, or use the Network Image Creator. For more information, see Selecting Your Media for Installation. If you elect not to install directly from DVD, you will not see some of the prompts regarding swapping the DVD in the following procedure.

CAUTION:  To install Siebel eBusiness Applications, you must have 50-100 MB of disk space on your system drive (usually your C: drive), even if you intend to install Siebel eBusiness Applications onto another drive. This space is used as a temp directory.

The Siebel Enterprise Server Installer verifies not only that you have the required software for installation of the Siebel version you are installing, but that the software is at the version level necessary.

NOTE:  The following procedure is for installing the base product. For patch installation instructions, refer to the Maintenance Release Guide provided with the patch.

To install the Siebel Gateway Name Server

  1. If you are installing from DVD, insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the drive:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for Windows
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for Windows

NOTE:  The volume label for the DVD is seawinunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siawinunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications).

  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the root directory of the DVD or to the appropriate network directory, if you are installing from a network image.
  3. Navigate to Windows\Server\Siebel_Enterprise_Server and double-click setup.exe.

The Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for Siebel Enterprise Server screen appears.

  4. Click Next.

If you have installed other Siebel components on the same machine, the installer displays the message that an existing installation has been found, and you should proceed to Step 5; otherwise, click Next and proceed to Step 6.

  5. Depending on whether you want to install a new instance of Siebel software or add a new language to an existing instance, take the appropriate action:
  6. Select the directory in which you want to install Siebel Enterprise Server and click Next.

By default, setup installs in the C:\sea7x directory. If desired, you may choose a different drive for installation by either clicking Browse or typing the drive and directory location that you recorded in Deployment Planning Worksheet.

NOTE:  This directory name must not contain spaces, although underscores are allowed.

The installer prompts you to select the product or products you want to install.

  7. Choose the product or products you want to install at this time and click Next.

If you install all licensed components at once, the Siebel Enterprise Server Installer and the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard prompt you for the installation parameters of each component individually and in the sequence required.

NOTE:  Before proceeding, review the preinstallation requirements for each module you plan to install. See Siebel Gateway Name Server Installation Requirements and other applicable sections.

  8. Choose the type of installation to execute from the following options and click Next.

NOTE:  For the Siebel Gateway Name Server, all three options install the same Siebel Gateway Name Server components.

    • Typical. Installs all Gateway components.
    • Compact. Installs only those components necessary to run the Siebel Gateway, but no additional components or help.
    • Custom. Lets you customize your installation by choosing the specific components you want to install.
  9. Select the language or languages you want to install or add and click Next.

Servers are installed, at a minimum, with the primary (base) language in which the server will be run. This is the primary (base) language for your Enterprise Server. Optionally, you can install one or more additional languages.

When installing languages at a later date, you must also reinstall any patches that may have been run on the directory.

NOTE:  In a Unicode-enabled database environment, you can install any of the available Siebel Language Packs. In a non-Unicode database environment, you must consider the correlation of the Language Packs you want to install and the characters supported by your database code page. For example, in a Western European code page database, you can only install Western European Language Packs, such as English, French, Spanish, or German Language Packs. In a Japanese code page database, you can only install Japanese or English Language Packs.

For a list of supported code pages and encoding strategies, see System Requirements and Supported Platforms on Siebel SupportWeb.

The installer program performs a validation check to make sure that installation prerequisites are met. If they are not, a prompt appears, stating which installation requirement is not met. Satisfy the requirements and restart the installation process.

If you are installing your first language, the Program Folder screen appears; otherwise, proceed to Step 12.

  10. Click Next to accept the default folder name or modify the folder name as desired and click Next.
  11. The installer displays the location into which it will install the Siebel Gateway Name Server and any other servers you have elected to install, and also the file size. Click Next to continue or Back to adjust the values.

The installer proceeds to install the specified files. After the files have been copied to the installation location, this message appears:

Setup did not find the lang language pack on the current media. Please insert the DVD containing the lang language pack and select the setup.exe file from the lang folder.

    where:

lang = The code for the language you are installing, such as enu for U.S. English.

NOTE:  For Siebel Industry Applications, the Windows and UNIX Language Packs are on different DVDs.

  12. Remove the current DVD from the drive and insert the appropriate Language Pack DVD.

A message box appears, titled Navigate to the Executable on the lang Language Pack DVD, and displays a file called siebel.ini. However, you do not need to do anything with this file.

  13. Double-click setup.exe under Windows\Server\Siebel_Enterprise_Server\lang, where lang is the code for the Language Pack you are installing, such as enu.

A message appears, stating that language files are being installed.

When all language files have been installed, if this is your first language installation, the following message box appears; otherwise, proceed to Step 18.

Please re-insert the base DVD and browse to the setup.exe to enable setup to continue.

  14. Click OK.
  15. Remove the current DVD from the drive, and reinsert the base DVD into the DVD drive.
  16. Double-click setup.exe.
  17. Select one of the following options to continue:
    • Continue with configuring the Siebel Gateway Name Server. For detailed instructions, see Configuring the Siebel Gateway Name Server.
    • Close out of the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard and configure later. In this case, the installer displays the following message; however, note that you cannot operate the Siebel Gateway Name Server until it is configured:

The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed the Siebel Enterprise Server. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

  18. To complete the installation process, click Finish.
