Siebel Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows: Servers, Mobile Web Clients, Tools > Preparing for Installation > Creating a Network Image >

Using the Image Creator Utility

To facilitate installation, you may choose to create a network image using the Image Creator utility. The Image Creator utility creates a network image from physical DVDs, allowing you to streamline your installation process and complete the installation process without physically inserting and swapping DVDs.

As an alternative, you can copy the DVDs directly to a network location, as described in Copying DVDs Directly to a Central Network Location.

NOTE:  The Image Creator utility is run in GUI mode, but installations from a network image can be launched in GUI, console, or unattended modes, depending on the platform.

You can use the Image Creator utility to create the network image for multiple languages and the following Siebel products:

  • Siebel Enterprise Server
  • Siebel Web Server Extension
  • Siebel CORBA Object Manager
  • Siebel Mobile Web Client and Dedicated Web Client
  • Siebel Tools

NOTE:  The Image Creator only creates a network image for the platform from which the utility is launched. For example, if it is launched on Windows, it creates only a network image for Windows and, if it is launched on HP-UX, it creates only a network image for HP-UX, and so on.

To create a network image

  1. Insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the DVD drive of the chosen server:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for Windows
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for Windows

NOTE:  The volume label for the DVD is seawinunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siawinunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications).

  2. On this DVD, navigate to the directory Windows\Deployment_Tools\Siebel_Imagecreator and invoke the ImageCreator.exe executable program.

The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for the Siebel Image Creator Utility screen appears.

  3. Click Next.

    The Product Selection screen appears.

  4. Select all products for which you want to create a network image, and click Next.

    The Destination Directory screen appears.

  5. Specify the directory in which you want to create the network image (for example, \\my_server\sea77_image), or browse to the location, and click Next.

CAUTION:  When you create a network image for Siebel Mobile Web Client or Siebel Tools installation files, the target directory structure must not include the word disk1 anywhere in the directory path.

NOTE:  You need to create separate network locations for each operating system platform and run the Image Creator utility for each operating system platform.

The screen that appears next depends on the products you selected in Step 4. The screen prompts you to insert the DVD of the product for which you want to create a network image and instructs you to navigate to setup.exe.

The screen that appears prompts you to insert the base applications DVD, as listed in Step 1, then navigate to the appropriate location. If you selected SWSE, for example, navigate to Windows\Server\Siebel_Web_Server_Extension\setup.exe.

  6. Insert the requested DVD into the drive and type in or browse to the directory path of the requested setup.exe on the DVD.

Each product installation image is placed into its own subdirectory under the directory you specify. For example, if you specify \\my_server\sea77_image as the destination directory and you select the products Siebel Enterprise Server and Siebel Web Server Extension, their installation images are installed into the following directories respectively: \\my_server\sea77_image\ses and \\my_server\sea77_image\eapps.

NOTE:  If you are using a network location, make sure it has a drive letter assigned to it. The Image Creator utility does not recognize mounted network drives without a drive letter assigned to them.

    The Language Selection screen appears.

  7. Specify the language or languages that you want to include in the network image of the selected product and click Next.
    • If you selected multiple products in Step 4, the next screen that appears prompts you to insert the base DVD for the next product you selected. Proceed to Step 8.
    • If you only selected one product in Step 4, proceed to Step 9.
  8. Repeat Step 5 through Step 7 for each product and language you want to install.

The InstallShield Wizard displays a message indicating that installation was successful.

  9. Click Finish to exit the InstallShield Wizard.
