The Browse Controls

The Browse control lets users look for records based on taxonomies. This means Providers (Businesses), Services, Endpoints, and tModels can be located based on Category, Identity or Relation.

You can see the Browse page by clicking on the Browse tab in the top left of the console. It helps to be logged in when browsing by taxonomy. This allows you to access favorite taxonomies as well as records that may be hidden due to access restrictions.

Organization

The Browse page is broken into a narrow left navigation panel and a right view panel.

The Navigation panel has three levels, Browse, Filter and Query. You can switch between these levels with links at the bottom of the panel.

Browsing

At the top of this view are three controls; a filter list box, an entities switch, and an empty categories switch.

Filter List Box - in this list box you can filter the taxonomies shown in the tree. In the default console configuration selections include:

  • enterprise taxonomies - show taxonomies most applicable to general needs of the enterprise.

  • filter - show taxonomies based on controls set in the filter layer.

  • favorite taxonomies - show taxonomies selected as favorites. If favorite taxonomies have not been collected under your user account then this selection will not appear.

Categorized Entities - this switch is the house icon with orange and blue figures inside. When the red "X" shows to the left of the house, record enties will be shown in the left navigation tree as nodes below the taxonomies that they use. Click the icon to "Hide categorized entities". When no "X" shows above the house, record entities will only be shown in the right view pane. To see them in the tree switch this state to "Show categorized entities".

Show/Hide Categories - this switch is the purple file folder icon. When it is greyed, all taxonomies matching the filter, including those which are not used by any record in the registry will be displayed in the tree. Click it to "Supress empty categories". When it is shown normally, categories that are not used by any published record are supressed in the tree. They will not be shown. Click this icon to "Show all categories", when you want to see even those categories which are not yet used by any registry record.

Filtering

Filtering can be perfomed on the Taxonomy Name, Taxonomy Type, Record type Compatibility with the taxonomy, Valadation type. Once Filter parameters have been set the Filter button at the bottom of the panel needs to be clicked. See more in the Filter Taxonomies heading.

Querying

Queries are built from unchecked taxonomies in the Browse layer. The Query layer shows selected query taxonomies in the form of a tree. Right clicking branches and nodes brings up a menu by which they can be removed from the query. Query Taxonomies subject.

Views

The right view panel will show either details or lists. When browsing to an entity in the left hand panel clicking that entity will bring up its record details. When browsing to a taxonomy or querying using multiple taxonomies the right view panel displays lists of records matching the taxonomy or query. The lists are seperated by record type. Each record type has its own tab which can be clicked on the right side of the panel. Tab visibility can be toggled by clicking the Show/Hide tabs icon in the top right corner of this panel.
