Before You Read This Book

Before you install any of the software described in this guide, read the Sun Fire Link 1.1 Release Notes, which lists the supported hardware configurations, the required versions of the SolarisTM Operating Environment, and any open bugs and workarounds.

Before you install Suntrademark Management Center software, read the Sun Management Center 3.5 Installation and Configuration Guide, which provides information you need to know about installing and configuring Sun Management Center 3.5 software.

How This Book Is Organized

Chapter 1 provides a high-level description of the topics covered by this document, and includes preinstallation information, such as correct software versions and any needed patches. This chapter also describes how to upgrade from Sun Management Center 3.0, Platform Update 4 (PU4), software to Sun Management Center 3.5 software.

Chapter 2 provides instructions for configuring system controllers, updating firmware, and installing the Solaris Operating Environment.

Chapter 3 provides instructions for installing, setting up, uninstalling, starting, and stopping the Sun Management Center 3.5 software, using the Sun Management Center 3.5 Wizards. This chapter assumes you are doing a fresh installation. The chapter includes installing, setting up, and uninstalling the base software, the Fabric Manager (FM), the Remote Shared Memory (RSM) proxies, and the Sun Fire Link agents on their respective hosts.

Chapter 4 describes how to update Sun Management Center Sun Fire Link agent layer software on multiple nodes simultaneously using the Agent Update process.

Chapter 5 provides optional procedures for installing the Sun Validation Test Suite (SunVTSTM) packages.

Chapter 6 describes configuring the RSM network, which you need to do, and configuring the Data Link Provider Interface (DLPI), which is optional.

Appendix A describes the command line interface (CLI) procedures for installing, setting up, uninstalling, starting, and stopping the Sun Management Center 3.5 software, including the base software, the Fabric Manager, the RSM proxies, and the Sun Fire Link agent software. This appendix assumes you are doing a fresh installation. Using the CLI, you can choose to uninstall one, several, or all of the Sun Management Center software packages.

The glossary defines abbreviations and acronyms used in this installation guide and in the Sun Management Center 3.5 graphical user interface.
