In general, server response time is measured by the number of messages per second and the number of client connections per second your server can handle. There are many factors that affect server response time: number of users, peak traffic times, hardware and software configuration, network bandwidth, and so on.
Netscape Messaging Server provides a set of server response attributes you can use to monitor server response time for IMAP, POP, HTTP, and SMTP services. These attributes are listed in Table 10.3. Response time is measured for how long it takes to make a connection to a service and to receive the service greeting. If response time exceeds a specified number of seconds, you will be notified via email. You set values for the server response attributes by using the configutil utility.
