Returning the Server to Operation
Return the Server to the Normal Rack Position
The server provides six 2.5-inch drive bays, accessible through the front panel. Hard disk drives can be removed and installed while the server is running. This feature, referred to as being hot-swappable, depends on how the drives are configured.
Note - Both traditional, disk-based storage devices, and Flash SSDs, which are diskless storage devices based on solid-state memory, are supported. The terms “hard drive” and “HDD” are used in a generic sense to refer to both types of internal storage devices.
To hot-swap a drive, you must first take it offline. This prevents applications from accessing the drive and removes software links to it.
A hard disk drive should not be hot-swapped when either of the following conditions exist:
The hard disk drive contains the sole image of the operating system–that is, the operating system is not mirrored on another drive.
The hard disk drive cannot be logically isolated from the server's online operations.
If either condition exists, you must power off the server before replacing the drive.
