Inspect the Shipping Containers

Since this manual is packaged with the Graphics Tower, you have obviously already unpacked that shipping container. Before proceeding any further, please read the instructions below.

    1. Check all of the shipping containers for any obvious damage.

If any container is seriously damaged, request that the carrier's agent be present when the container is opened. If the carrier's agent is not present when the container is opened and the contents are found to be damaged, keep all contents and packing materials for the agent's inspection.

    2. Follow the directions on the containers for opening.

You should receive either four or five shipping containers, as listed below:

Unpack the Shipping Containers

The following instructions take you step-by-step through unpacking the various containers.

Unpack the System Unit Container

    1. Unpack the system unit container as described on the inside flaps of the shipping container.

The system unit is heavy and is packed tightly in protective foam molds. Carefully remove the system unit from the carton. Save the container and the packing material. You will need them if you ever want to ship your system elsewhere.

    2. Set the system unit aside until you are instructed to install the GT SBus Adapter Board in Chapter 3 (SPARCstation 2 only).

The SPARCstation 10 comes with the GT SBus Adapter Board pre-installed.

Unpack the Color Monitor Container

Caution -

The color monitor weighs 91 pounds (41.3 kg). Two people are needed to remove the monitor from the container.

    1. Unpack the monitor from its shipping container as described on the inside flaps of the shipping container.

Save the container and the packing material. You will need them if you ever want to ship your system elsewhere.

    2. Set the monitor aside until you are instructed to connect it in Chapter 3 of this manual.

Unpack the Country Kit

    1. Unpack the keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, and manuals from the country kit.
    2. Set these items aside until you are instructed to install the system unit in Chapter 5, "Installing the Graphics Tower."

Unpack the Graphics Tower Container
