Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a cryptographic protocol that provides communication security over the Internet. SSL encrypts the segments of network connections at the application layer for the Transport Layer, using asymmetric cryptography for key exchange, symmetric encryption for confidentiality, and message authentication codes for message integrity.

Commerce Service Center applications use SSL during user log in. When using HTTPS, you must disable the default access controller. The <ATG11dir>/Service11.0/Service/Framework/Agent/liveconfig/atg/userprofiling/
ProtocolAccessController.properties
file identifies a number of settings required when using HTTPS.

For more detail, see the section Ensuring HTTPS Connectivity in the Commerce Service Center Installation and Programming Guide, and Configure SSL in the Installation and Configuration Guide.
