Slotting Overview and Setup

Slotting allows you to manage inventory for pickable primary locations in order to maximize warehouse picking efficiencies. During the slotting process, the system determines the best location for new and existing items based on product data, location data, past and anticipated pick frequency and sales history. Information analyzed includes unit sales, open purchase orders, on hand quantity, item velocity, item group, item weight and size, and location pick volume. Based on this analysis, the system determines which products should be moved to a different pickable primary location.

Printing Primary Capacity Reports (PPCR) to generate reports used for slotting.

Generating Slotting Transfer Data (GSLT) to transfer an item/SKU from one pickable primary location to another within a specific warehouse, based on analysis of the Slotting report. You can sort and limit the results that print on the Slotting report based on top or bottom performers. You can use the Slotting Detail Worksheet to help you physically move items from their current pickable primary location to their new pickable primary location.

Slotting Item Location Upload to upload records to the Location Slotting Upload table from an external system. You can use the Generating Slotting Transfer Data (GSLT) menu option to review and work with the Location Slotting records before completing the transfer or you can immediately upload and complete the transfer from one pickable primary location to another in one step.

Generating New Item Slotting Data (GNIS) to create new item locations for pickable primary locations that have remaining room, based on the selection criteria you define. You can create an item location only for locations that currently are not associated with any item locations or whose Max SKUs setting has not been reached.

Slotting Setup

Before you can use slotting, you must complete the required setup.

Slotting Example: Transfer Discontinued Items

Use slotting to transfer all discontinued items that are in a primary location to a low velocity rank location.

1.

Use the Printing Primary Capacity Reports (PPCR) menu option to generate the following reports, which you can use to determine if there are any items/SKUs that should be transferred to another pickable primary location.

Maximum SKUs Report

SKU Primary Location Mismatch Report

Empty Primary Location Report

2.

Complete the Generate Slotting Transfer Data Screen:

Warehouse = Enter the warehouse where you wish to perform slotting.

Unit Sales date range = Enter the date range you wish to use to determine the unit sales for each item/SKU included in slotting.

Open POs date range = Leave blank.

Item Status...Include/Exclude = Enter the item status that represents discontinued items and select Include.
