Data integrity MICROS Retail OSCAR POS

As from version MICROS Retail OSCAR POS 4.2 some program extensions have been made which ensure the data integrity of a multi-branch installation (head office and branches).

It is feasible in certain circumstances that basic data changes which have already been sent from head office to the branch no longer exist, e.g. as a result of a return backup of older data after failure of a hard disk. As from version MICROS Retail OSCAR POS 4.2 the log counter information for the last update from head office to the branches will also be stored in the branch. This information can be used at any time to restore the data integrity of basic data. The basic data changes are sent once again to the branches.

In menü Application -> DTM -> Data integrity the following programs allow the data integrity of the system to be checked.

The parameters listed below must be set before the new functions can be used:

Parameter New Update Method and New Statistics Method must be activated in program System -> Configuration -> Installation -> Installation type. Parameter "Online/Offline Log" must be activated in program System -> Configuration -> Installation to allow for a protocol of online and offline conditions.

If  MICROS Retail OSCAR POS applies the new update and statistics methods the sequences of the following programs will change:

Update Installation

All basic data changes are stored in head office (main installation) in a log file together with a file no. and position no.. These values can be viewed in head office for all installations with program System -> Configuration -> Installation ->Installation state.

When function "New Update Method" is programmed in program System -> Configuration -> Installation -> Installation type the function "Update Installation" changes as follows:

Please note!

This is only possible if the return backup of the data backup already contains the information on the new update method.

To ensure that this information is also available in head office this data must be transferred with the DTM job "GETDTMSTATE" to head office.
The individual data records are marked with status "sent".

Get statistics

Additional information is then stored separately in the branch so that they can be transferred to head office with the Get statistics data. This is the recording date of the branch server and the linked terminal clients.

After head office has received statistics data from the branch the status for received statistics data is stored in head office. This data can be viewed with program Application -> DTM -> Data integrity -> Statistics sent and Statistics received.

Grand Total and audit turnover

The values for "Grand Total" and "Audit turnover" can be viewed in program System -> Configuration -> Process unit state to check that terminal transactions have been successfully recorded in the local databases.

When the new statistics method is applied these values are also stored in a separate table and can be transferred to head office with DTM job."GETDTMSTATE". This data can be viewed with program Application -> DTM -> Data integrity -> Terminal Grand Total.

Terminal Offline Log

When the new statistics method is applied the protocol data for online/offline conditions of terminals including those in the branches is stored in a separate data table and can be transferred to head office with DTM job "GETDTMSTATE".

The protocol data for the online/offline conditions of the terminals of every branch can be called up in head office with program Application -> DTM -> Data integrity -> Terminal Offline Log.

Note:
Parameter "Online/Offline Log" must be activated in program System -> Konfiguration -> Installation if the online and offline conditions of terminals are to be recorded in a protocol.

DTM job (GETDTMSTATE)

When the new methods for "Update Installation" and "Get statistics" are applied the following status data can be transferred from the branch to head office with this DTM job: Process units state, Branch Status, Branch Status / Date, Statistics sent, Statistics received and Terminal Grand Total. These data records are marked as "sent" after successful transfer to head office.
