Item Preset Keys – Keyboard Tables and Input Levels

The following general description of the procedure with item preset keys and different input levels deals with:

  1. The Functionality
  2. Procedure

1. The Functionality

Depending on the set-up of your terminal keyboard, there are item preset keys on it. Item preset key means that this key refers directly to a particular item. This may be an open item (open PLU, cp. Item Update) or an item with a fixed sales price.

In order to be able to set up as many item preset keys as possible without having to installing them physically, the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application offers the following function:

For every item preset key, up to 4 input levels can be established (Standard level, level 1-3). On each level, a single item is assigned to the key, i.e. up to 4 different items can be booked via one item key. The next higher level can be entered via the Shift key. f there is no higher level, the Shift key leads to the standard level.

The name of the current level will appear on the display / screen (input level 1, input level 2, input level 3). Compare the Note further below.

Note on the sales screen:

2. Procedure (Configuration with a Terminal Keyboard)

2.1 Configuration of Item Preset Keys

The basic precondition for the configuration of input levels is the creation of item preset keys in the window Keyboard -> Keys [Touch screen: System -> User Interface -> Touch Page -> Keys]. The procedure is described in the corresponding program description.

Attention!

2.2 Creating a Shift Key

Another precondition is the existence of the function key SHIFT. This key is to be created in Keyboard -> Keys. Detailed descriptions can be found  in the corresponding programs. The correct spelling of the keys can be found in Key Codes.

Note:
You can create several shift keys to enter the desired input level directly. In this case, enter the number of the input level to be changed to by pressing the shift key in the column Event data [Sales screen: Event Data]. The shift key can also be configured to be a two-step key, i.e. you enter the number of the input level and press the shift key afterwards.

2.3 Configuration of a Preset Key Table

The third step is to create a preset key table and assign it to the Terminal Type . However, this is at first only the table “frame” in which the actual entries, the item preset keys and the item numbers are still missing.

2.4 Embedding the Positions in the Table

With position numbers, the – max. 4 – items will be embedded. The position number must be identical with the entry in Event Data (window Keys).
