Touch Keys

The following program description deals with:

Remarks on the Program Function

This program can be started from the window Touch Page. While you have defined the default values of the right-hand side of the sales screen in the program Touch Layout, i.e. define the basic values, and assign screen pages to this layout via Touch Pages, you configure the keys visible on the right half of the screen via the program Touch Keys. You define which keys are to be displayed where and in which size etc.

Notes:

Remarks on the Input Fields

This paragraph will provide a short overview over the options available for updating these basic data

Just like in almost any other program:

Touch layout

Permitted input range: numeric, 1 - 9999

Number of the layout to which the page is assigned on which the key is (to be) set up.

Touch page

Permitted input range: numeric, 1 - 9999

Number of the page on which the key to be maintained is (to be) set up.

Key no.

Permitted input range: numeric, 1 - 9999

Every key has to be created with a unique number per page.

When creating a new record, enter a free unique number. For deletions or modification, enter the number of the key to be changed.

Touch key text

Permitted input range: alphanumeric, max. 32 chars.

Enter the name to be displayed on the key.

The number of characters depends on the Font Format, e.g. with a 12-point font, a maximum of 4 lines with 7 characters each are available.

Automatic word wraps are generated by use of \n. If you would like to distribute e.g. the word Hamburger to two lines, enter Ham-\nburger.

Notes:

Pixmap

Activated: Key with graphic image.
Deactivated: Key without graphic image.

If a graphic image is displayed on a key, you have to activate this option. Please note that the data format of the graphic image depends on the operating system; e.g. UNIX supports the XPM format, WINDOWS NT supports the BMP format.

Disabled

Activated: The key will not be displayed.
Deactivated: The key will be displayed.

In general, you have created a touch layout with the maximum number of keys (cp. Copy Function and button Create in the program description Touch Layout). This does not mean that you have to display all keys on every page. You can deactivate keys you do not need by activating the option. They will then not be displayed on the related page.

Event name

Permitted input range: alphanumeric, max. 20 chars.

Enter the name of the "event" that occurs through pressing the key. (The event name is the same as the internal key name. A list of the related names can be found in the document Key and Booking Functions.) In order to carry out e.g. a department booking transaction, you have to enter DEPT. The next page can be switched over to by entering fTP.

Event data

Permitted input range: alphanumeric, max. 20 chars.

Enter the data to be transferred by pressing the key. For an item preset key (entry in Event Name: FW), you would enter e.g. the item number to be booked, for calling a screen page (via fTP), you would enter the related page name. The name must be the same as the entry in the window Touch Page in the field Descriptor.

X

Permitted input range: numeric, 0 - 9999

Here you can define the horizontal position of the top left pixel of a key. The count begins in the top left corner of the right-hand part of the screen.

Y

Permitted input range: numeric, 0 - 9999

Here you define the vertical position of the top left pixel of a key. The count begins in the top left corner of the right-hand part of the screen.

Width

Permitted input range: numeric, 0 - 9999

The key width is quoted in pixels. Standard width: 54 Pixel. The value can be modified.

By default, the key width that has been defined in the Touch Layout is assigned. If you make a different entry in this field, the default value is overridden.

If you would like a larger key image, you have to bear in mind that

Height

Permitted input range: numeric, 0 - 9999

The key height, too, is quoted in pixels. (cp. Width).

Foreground color

Permitted input range: numeric, 1 - 9999

Via this parameter, you can define the color of the foreground, i.e. the font color. The MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application is delivered with a default pre-selection. Among others, you can find the default option predefined by the operating system (e.g. SCO UNIX). Alternatively, you can select white (black background) or black (white background).

The Color table shows which color is linked to which color no. and the name.

Via the right-hand button, you can also change to the window for the maintenance of the Colors. There you can "mix" your own color by entering the values for the different color parts (red, green, blue).

By default, the color that has been defined in the Touch Layout is assigned. If you make a different entry in this field, the default value is overridden.

Background color

Permitted input range: numeric, 1 - 9999

Here you define the background color of the key (= key space). Here, too, you can select the settings suggested by the operating system or define one of the predefined colors, depending on the selected foreground color.

Font

Permitted input range: numeric, 1 - 999

Here you assign the fonts created in program Fonts. Enter the desired number. For the font maintenance, you can enter the related program via the right-hand button.

By default, the font that has been defined in the Touch Layout is assigned. If you make a different entry in this field, the default value is overridden.
