Chapter 16: Working with SKU Cross Reference Types (WSXT)

Purpose: Use this option to set up types to group SKU cross reference codes based on the external system where the codes are used. The SKU cross reference type also indicates whether you can add an item to an order simply by entering the SKU cross reference code instead of the item code in the Item field.

About SKU cross references: Cross reference codes enable you to identify items in CWDirect by the codes used for these items in external systems, such as retail outlets. If the Search SKU Cross Reference (J56) system control value is set to Y, you can display the SKU Cross Reference Selection Screen, which lists items by their SKU cross reference codes, when you prompt (F4) on the Item field in order entry, display item availability, and return authorizations. You can use SKU cross references to make it easier to add items to orders using the item codes used by remote systems.

Note: If the Display Item Alias (D56) system control value is set to Y, it overrides the setting of the Search SKU Cross Reference (J56) system control value, and prompting displays the Alias Selection Screen rather than the SKU Cross Reference Selection Screen.

Automatically create SKU cross reference? To have the system automatically create a cross reference whenever you create an item/SKU, you specify the cross reference type code to use in the SKU Cross Reference Type (J55) system control value. The system creates a SKU cross reference using the item and SKU codes, concatenated and with spaces removed, as the cross reference code. Having the system create SKU cross references automatically enables you to search by the regular CWDirect item code as well as any SKU cross references at the SKU Cross Reference Selection Screen in order entry. If this system control value is blank, the system does not automatically create SKU cross references at item/SKU creation.

Important: The SKU cross references discussed here are different from the cross references you set up through the Maintaining SKU Cross Reference/JCP Codes (MSKR) menu option. The cross references you set up through the Maintain SKU Cross Reference menu option are stored in the SKU Cross Reference/JCP file and are related to the JC Penney integration.

For more information: See SKU Cross Reference Codes in Order Entry for more information on using SKU cross reference codes to select items in order entry.
