Dynamic Creation of Coupons (B21)

Purpose: Use this screen to define whether you are able to enter unnumbered coupons or credits in Order Entry.

Yes/No field: If you select this field, you can enter a coupon number that does not exist in the Coupon Redemption table and the system will create a coupon record. The system will check to see if the customer has redeemed the coupon number previously. If so, a message displays that the coupon has previously been redeemed.

This feature is used to support companies that insert a coupon in their offers and ensure that the coupon is only used once. A “dummy” number is assigned to the coupon (for example, 99999). When the customer tries to redeem the coupon through a phone order, the Order Entry operator enters 99999 in the Coupon # field and the amount of the coupon. Order Entry checks that coupon number 99999 has not been used previously by the customer. If not, the system creates a coupon redemption record and identifies the coupon as used.

If you leave this field unselected, you will only be able to enter system-assigned coupons. When the operator enters a coupon number and amount, Order Entry validates that the coupon has not been redeemed and checks to ensure that the amount is valid.

Related system control value: If system control value Require Gift Certificate/Coupon Number (G75) is selected, you will be required to enter a coupon number when you use a coupon as payment method; however, you can enter a number that does not exist, and have the system create the coupon record if Dynamic Creation of Coupons is also selected.
