Before You Begin

If you don't see the Assistant option, you might not have the required permissions. Contact your administrator to request the Use Assistant in Workbooks permission. See Grant or Revoke Permissions for Application Roles.

Administrators may also need to enable Oracle’s default generative AI as the source for your Assistant. See Configure Which Generative AI to Use with AI-supporting Features.

Administrators can also enable the Assistant to use its built-in knowledge to improve responses by allowing the Assistant to use information outside of your data. See Configure Built-In Knowledge for Oracle Analytics AI AssistantConfigure Built-In Knowledge for Oracle Analytics AI Assistant.

Get Started with Oracle Analytics AI Assistant

To use the Assistant, you need to first index the dataset or subject area you want the Assistant to have knowledge of.

When you’re indexing data for use with the Assistant, you can improve responses by being mindful of the data you select to index and leveraging synonyms to help the Assistant identify data points. For help indexing your data, see Improve Results from Oracle Analytics AI Assistant and Tips on Using Synonyms for Home Page and AI Assistant Search.

After you enable the Assistant by indexing your dataset for search, you can find it by opening Auto Insights in your workbook and selecting the Assistant. You ask the Assistant natural language prompts to analyze indexed data, like "Show me sales" or "Profits by city" and it provides visualizations or data insights. You can continue to prompt the Assistant to further refine or analyze the results of your queries. You can add any visualizations created with the AI Assistant to your workbook and add the visualizations to a watchlist. You can also create visualizations from your home page and then add them to a workbook.

The Assistant supports English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai. The language set in your user profile determines the language the Assistant responds with. The Assistant responds to prompts made in unsupported languages, but responses use English and may be unreliable.

Assistant requests are always processed within a secure OCI environment. However, your Assistant request may be routed to another OCI region for processing.

Oracle Analytics leverages foundation models deployed through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's Generative AI Service. These models are used in their native state without fine-tuning or model customization. We do not use your data to train our models and achieve our results through careful prompt engineering.

Note:

The Oracle Analytics AI Assistant uses a Large Language Model (LLM) when processing your questions. As a result, it might generate responses based on patterns in data rather than factual accuracy. Always verify the results and consult your primary data sources before making critical decisions based on results generated by the Assistant. Oracle recommends you avoid providing any personally identifying information as part of your natural language prompts, as the text is sent exactly as written to the LLM.

Make the Assistant Available to Consumers

You can allow consumer users of your workbooks to use the Assistant and even select which datasets or subject areas the Assistant can use to respond to their natural language prompts. You enable consumers to use the Assistant as part of the presentation flow. See Show or Hide the Insights Panel for Consumers in Present and Specify Datasets and Subject Areas Available to Consumers in Insights Panel.

Consumers can learn more about using the Assistant with About Using the Oracle Analytics AI Assistant as a Consumer.
