Running Matches for Mapping

Before You Begin

The following steps must be completed before you can run matching for mapping nodes:

  1. A matching rule must be defined for a data source that the request items are associated with. See Creating, Editing, and Deleting Matching Rules.

    Tip:

If you are adding or loading request items directly to a viewpoint without specifying a data source, then by default the data source for those request items is the registered application for that viewpoint. Therefore, you must have a matching rule defined for that registered data source.
  2. You must create a request that contains the request items to map to existing nodes in a mapping bound viewpoint. You can create the request interactively, via a request load file, from compare results, or using a subscription. The request must meet the following criteria:

    • The request items for the nodes to be mapped must have the Insert action (that is, the nodes must be in the same application and dimension with a different node type).
    • The request items be in a mapping viewpoint.
    • The mapping viewpoint cannot allow shared nodes.

      Tip:

By default, mapping viewpoints allow shared nodes. If the system displays a message stating that you are unable to create a match, inspect the hierarchy set for the viewpoint (see Inspecting a Hierarchy Set) and verify that Shared Nodes is not enabled.

Considerations

You must have Data Manager permission or greater to a mapping bound viewpoint in order to run matching for mapping purposes for nodes types in that viewpoint.

To run a new match for mapping request items to existing nodes in a mapping viewpoint:

After you have created or loaded the request items that you want to run mapping for, perform the following actions to create and run a match:

  1. From the viewpoint with the open request, click the Match and Deduplicate matching icon tab on the left side of the viewpoint window.
  2. In the Match Pane, click New Create match icon, and then select Match and Map Request Items. See the Before You Begin section for the criteria that the request must meet.
  3. On the New Match screen, perform these actions:
    1. Select the viewpoint for the match. The viewpoint must be a mapping bound viewpoint, and shared nodes cannot be enabled for the hierarchy set in the viewpoint.
    2. Select the source node type for the match. Only node types for request items in the request are displayed.
    3. Select the data source for the match. Only data sources for the request items with the selected node type in the request are displayed.
    4. Select the target node type for the match. Only node types found in the matching rules for the selected source node type and data source are displayed.
    5. Click Run Match.

The matching operation is started using the defined match rules for the source node type, data source, and target node type, and a progress bar is displayed. When the matching operation has finished, the match result set is displayed. See Understanding Match Results for Mapping.
