Get started with subscription plans
A subscription plan is a reusable template for subscriptions. Plans help you use the same billing schedule and item lines for multiple customers.
When you create a subscription plan, you define:
- Billing frequency: Weekly, monthly, or yearly.
- Billing mode: In advance or in arrears.
- Duration type: How long the subscription runs. The available duration types depend on the billing frequency and include an endless duration and a custom number of cycles.
- Items: One or more subscription plan lines.
Subscription plan lines can have the following types:
- One-time: A charge that is billed once as part of the subscription.
- Recurring: A charge that repeats for each billing period and contributes to MRR.
- Usage: A usage-based charge. When you add a usage line to a new plan, its quantity starts at 0 and the charge is billed after usage is entered on a subscription.

Subscriptions with usage-based lines must use In arrears billing mode.
