Create a subscription

A subscription connects a customer to a billing schedule and one or more subscription lines. You can create a subscription from a subscription plan or enter subscription lines manually. Open Menu, select Subscriptions, and then select Manage subscriptions.

Create the subscription

  1. Open Menu, select Subscriptions, and then select Manage subscriptions.

  2. Select Create subscription.

  3. Select a customer, or create a customer from the customer field.

The customer’s email and terms may default from the customer record.

  4. Optionally, select a subscription plan.

When you select a plan, the subscription copies the plan’s schedule and item lines. Review the billing mode before you submit the subscription. Subscriptions with usage-based lines must use In arrears billing mode.

  5. To create a reusable plan from this subscription, select Save as plan.

QuickStart creates a subscription plan from the subscription schedule and item lines.

  6. Review the schedule.

You can update the billing frequency, billing mode, start date, end date, and duration type as needed.

  7. Review the subscription ID.

QuickStart provides a temporary ID before you submit. After submission, the subscription receives a subscription ID.

  8. Review the Items section.

Add, edit, or remove lines as needed. You can select existing items or create an item from the item field.

  9. Select Save as draft to keep working later, or select Submit to create the subscription.

What happens next

After you submit a subscription, the subscription opens in Active status.

If the subscription uses In advance billing, QuickStart creates the current-period invoice when you submit it. If it uses In arrears billing, QuickStart creates the invoice after the billing period or when unbilled charges are finalized by canceling the subscription.

Important limitation

A subscription that contains a usage line must use In arrears billing mode.
