Inventory Tab

The Inventory tab allows the user to record inventory used in the completion of the selected task.

This tab contains two screens. One is known as the Add/Edit/Delete Inventory Item screen and the other as the Inventory Item List screen.

Add/Edit/Delete Inventory Item screen in detail

This screen allows the user to add a new inventory item. It also allows the user to edit or delete a previously added inventory item.

Back button

To allow the user to navigate to the Inventory Item List screen.

If there are already one or more saved inventory items for this task, then Field Service Mobile shows Inventory Item List screen.

If there are no saved inventory items for this task, then this button has no effect.

Toggle Selected Task Details Screen Visibility button

To allow the user access to functions on the Selected Task Details screen.

Shows the Selected Task Details screen.

Delete Inventory Item button

To allow the user to delete an inventory item that has already been saved to the cloud.

Deletes the current inventory item from the cloud and then shows the Add/Edit/Delete Inventory Item screen with default values.

When viewing an inventory item that has been saved.

Saving To Cloud indicator

To inform the user that the inventory item is being saved to the cloud.

None

After the Save button has been pressed until the data has been saved to the cloud.

None

Discard Changes button

To allow the user to clear any changes that have been made within the Add/Edit/Delete Inventory Item screen.

Shows the alert below.

If the user presses OK on the alert, then Field Service Mobile reverts the contents of all data entry fields back to the previous values.

If no data has been saved to the cloud for the current inventory item, then all data entry items will be set to default values.

If data has been saved previously for the current inventory item, then all values revert to their previous values when the inventory item data was last saved.

If the user presses Cancel on alert, then the alert is hidden, and no changes are made.

Once changes are made to any of the data entry fields within the screen.

Shows the alert “Are you sure you want to discard your changes? OK. Cancel”.

Save button

To allow the user to save any changes that have been made within the Add/Edit/Delete Inventory Item screen.

Saves all the data entered within the Add/Edit/Delete Inventory Item screen for the selected task.

Once both the Item dropdown list and the Quantity text field contain valid values.

Item Search button

To show the normally hidden Item Search text box to allow the user to type in a search query.

If the user presses on the Item Search button, then the Item Search text box field slides out from the right-hand side of the Item Search button allowing the user to type in a search query.

Item Search text box

To allow the user to enter a search query which will be used to show only matching items in the Item dropdown list making it easier and quicker to find the desired item.

As the user types the search query text in the Item Search text box the Item dropdown list changes to show the user how many items match the search query. Once the user has typed the query, they should press on the Item dropdown list to show the matching items.

After the Item Search button has been pressed but the user has not pressed anywhere on the screen except for the Item Search button or Item Search text box.

Item dropdown list

To allow for the user to select from a list of items.

The list will be either the full list of all items in the system if the user has not entered a search query using the Item Search text box or, or a subset of all items in the system matching the search query if they have entered a search query.

Barcode Scanner button

To allow the user to use the camera on their mobile device to scan a supported barcode. If the barcode scanned matches the information for a particular item, then that item is selected in the Item Search text box.

Note:

The supported types of barcodes are EAN, EAN 8, Code 128 and UPC.

Displays a live feed from the mobile device’s camera in a window that covers part of the device’s screen.

If the user places the mobile device such that a valid barcode can be read by the system then the barcode is scanned, the live feed window is hidden, and the number read is placed in the Item Search text box.

If the user presses either inside or outside the live feed window before a valid barcode is read the window is closed.

If the mobile device being used is running the iOS operating system from Apple and Field Service Mobile is being run as a home screen shortcut, rather than within a tab in a web browser app, then the Barcode Scanner button will not be available.

The Barcode Scanner button will be visible in all other circumstances.

Quantity text field

To allow the user to add a quantity for the current inventory item.

This field only allows the user to type numerals, decimal points or the letter “e”.

To be considered valid the value entered must not have a decimal point preceding another character or contain the letter “e”.

Item text display field

To display to the user the name of the inventory item selected in the Item dropdown list.
