Opportunistic TLS and NetSuite Email

For information about how NetSuite handles the opportunistic Transport Layer Security (TLS) in email, see the following:

Note:

For information about TLS, see Supported TLS Protocol and Cipher Suites.

Opportunistic TLS for Inbound Email

Inbound email messages to NetSuite use opportunistic TLS. If the sender of the email supports TLS, the message is sent through an encrypted connection. If the sender does not support TLS, the email message is processed in plain text.

Attachments to inbound email messages are scanned for malware. If the attachment fails the malware scan, the email message is internally quarantined and cannot be delivered. Attachments are subject to the same filter as the files that are uploaded to the NetSuite file cabinet.

Opportunistic TLS for Outbound Email

Outbound email messages from NetSuite use opportunistic TLS. That is, outbound email messages use TLS encryption, if the receiving SMTP server supports TLS. Do not include personally identifiable information (PII) or other sensitive information in outbound email. If the SMTP server on the receiving end does not support TLS, the information in the email is not encrypted.
