Opportunistic TLS and NetSuite Email

For information about how NetSuite handles the opportunistic Transport Layer Security (TLS) in email, see the following:

Note:

For information about TLS, see Supported TLS Protocol and Cipher Suites.

Opportunistic TLS for Inbound Email

Inbound email messages to NetSuite use opportunistic TLS. If the sender of the email supports TLS, NetSuite sends the message over an encrypted connection. If the sender doesn't support TLS, NetSuite processes the email in plain text.

NetSuite scans attachments to inbound emails for malware. If the attachment fails the malware scan, NetSuite quarantines the email internally and won't deliver it. NetSuite applies the same filter to attachments as it does to files uploaded to the file cabinet.

Opportunistic TLS for Outbound Email

Outbound email messages from NetSuite use opportunistic TLS. That is, outbound email messages use TLS encryption, if the receiving SMTP server supports it. Don't include sensitive or personally identifiable information (PII) in outbound email. If the receiving SMTP server doesn't support TLS, emails aren't encrypted.
