Get Started with the NetSuite AI Connector Service
NetSuite has adopted the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which boosts its integration capabilities and enables secure interactions between AI models and data systems. This feature provides users, such as financial users, with a seamless integration that lets supported AI clients directly access and interact with NetSuite data and functionality.
NetSuite provides the MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp with a set of tools that let you interact with your NetSuite data, but you also have the option to build your own tools. For detailed installation guidance and more information about the SuiteApp, see MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp. To build your own tools, see Creating Custom Tools for the NetSuite AI Connector Service.
The following topics demonstrate how you can get started with the NetSuite AI Connector Service:
Before working with the NetSuite AI Connector Service, consider the following:
-
It's important to familiarize yourself with
Associated Risks, Controls, and Mitigation Strategies
when working with AI clients and large language models (LLMs).
-
To add the NS AI Connector, you’ll need the Pro plan (or higher) for Claude, or the Plus plan (or higher) for ChatGPT.
If you’re using a different AI client, please check that provider’s help documentation for their requirements, and review Creating Custom Tools for the NetSuite AI Connector Service.
In user-facing contexts, AI applications that can connect to MCP servers are often called AI assistants, while applications that act autonomously may be also referred to as AI agents. For consistency, the NetSuite AI Connector Service and other related help topics use the term AI clients to refer to all such applications. Other terms used in the help topics may also differ in documentation produced by different companies, as naming conventions are not standardized yet across the industry.
