Working with Answers
With NetSuite CPQ Configurator, you can create answers to introduce users to the item features or options and let them express their preferences. The options for creating answers change according to the question type. For example, you can add a text field to a checkbox answer or show placeholder text in an input box answer.
Each answer has an internal name and a label for the user interface. Optionally, you can add a tooltip—a short message that helps users better understand the answer. This message is displayed when users point to the answer. You can format the label or tooltip text by changing the paragraph font and size or making the text bold, italic, or underlined. You can also include HTML code to add links or images. However, script tags aren't supported.
You can use the sequence number to order the answers to a question. Answers with a lower sequence number are displayed higher on the user interface. To identify answers in rules and actions, you can use a shortened version of the name as a code.
You can change the answer look and feel on the Appearance subtab of the answer record. For example, you can show the answer label but hide its graphical element, such as the checkbox or the radio button. This option is useful for displaying a list of features or options that users should read but don't need to interact with.
The space for each answer depends on the columns assigned to the question record in the UI Columns field. If the answers related to a question are distributed horizontally, you can manually assign the space occupied by each answer depending on the amount of text they contain.
Before manually assigning the space to answers, go to the question record and verify that the answer layout is horizontal and clear any value entered in the Answers per Row field. For more information, see Changing the Question Look and Feel.
To create an answer:
-
In NetSuite, go to CPQ > Configurator > Product Maintenance.
-
Click Edit next to the product you want to modify.
-
On the Questions subtab, click name of the question for which you want to create an answer.
-
On the Answers subtab, click New CPQC Answer.
-
Enter a descriptive name for the answer.
This name is automatically copied to the Label field on the Appearance subtab. To change the name users see on the product interface, edit the text in the Label field.
In answers for tiles and tile dropdown lists, screen readers use the name as an alternate text and read it aloud to describe the images.
-
In the Code field, enter a unique identifier for this answer.
You can use a shortened version of the name as a code to identify the answer in rules and actions. The code can contain only uppercase letters, numbers, and underscore characters.
-
(Optional) In the Description field, enter a short explanation of the answer.
The description isn't displayed on the user interface.
-
Provide a sequence number to sort the answer within the question space on the user interface.
You can enter a negative or positive number—for example, -2 or 5.
-
On the Rules subtab, set up the rules to hide, make the answer read-only, or mark it as incompatible with the current configuration when users select certain features or options. For more information, see Working with Question and Answer Rules.
-
Click the Appearance subtab.
-
In the Label field, enter the text users see on the interface for this answer.
-
(Optional) In the Tooltip field, enter text to provide additional information about the answer and help users understand it.
-
To display the answer label and hide the graphical element, check the Show label only box.
-
To hide the answer label and show only the graphical element, check the Hide label box.
-
In the UI Columns field, enter a number between 1 and 12 to define how many columns the answer can occupy in the question space.
Note:This option doesn't apply to dropdown lists, tile dropdown lists, and input box questions.
-
Click Save.
After saving an answer, you can edit it from the Answers subtab to modify it or add information. To copy or delete answers, see Working with Product Building Blocks.
