Germany Account Setup

Setting up an account for an organization doing business in Germany usually requires enabling several features and installing some additional SuiteApps.

Enabling Features

Some features available in your NetSuite account are essential for users in Germany. If they are inactive, you should consider enabling them. Follow the instructions below to enable the most common features beneficial for users in Germany. However, if you want to get access to some specific product area, go to the Functional Areas help topic and check the exact requirements.

If you don't have sufficient permissions to enable features, please contact your account administrator.

To enable most common features:

  1. Go to Setup > Company > Setup Tasks > Enable Features (Administrator).

  2. On the Company subtab, go to the International subtab, and check the Multiā€“language and Multiple Currencies boxes.

  3. (Optional) On the Accounting subtab, go to the Basic features section and check the GL Audit Numbering box.

  4. (Optional) On the Accounting subtab, go to the Advanced features section and check the Period End Journal Entries, and Foreign Currency Variance Mapping boxes.

  5. On the SuiteCloud subtab, enable the following features:

    • SuiteBuilder

    • SuiteScript

    • SuiteGL

  6. If your company is registered for EU One Stop Shop, check the EU One Stop Shop box on the Tax subtab.

  7. Click Save.

Available SuiteApps

Some additional features will only become active if you install a specific SuiteApp to your NetSuite account. SuiteApps are applications that extend NetSuite for specific industry and business needs. If you would like to get access to some specific product area, go to the Functional Areas help topic and check which SuiteApps are required to be installed. Germany-specific features are currently available in the following SuiteApps:

Payments

Enables bank payments of vendor bills, employee expenses, partner and employee commissions, customer refunds, and customer payments within Germany. The SuiteApp supports the following formats for EFT:

  • DTAUS

  • DTAZV

  • SEPA Credit Transfer (Germany)

  • SEPA Credit Transfer (Austria)

  • SEPA Credit Transfer (ABN AMRO Bank)

  • SEPA Credit Transfer (HSBC Bank)

International Tax Reports

Taxation (Accounts without SuiteTax)

Generates Germany VAT report in English or German, sales and purchase reports by tax code, the generic EU sales list reports, and the generic Intrastat reports. If your account has the SuiteTax feature enabled, you do not need to install this SuiteApp.

Supplementary Tax Calculation

Taxation ( Accounts without SuiteTax)

Manages EU reverse charges through automatic posting of notional VAT to the General Ledger, and provides support for the calculation of non-deductible input tax. This SuiteApp works in conjunction with the International Tax Reports SuiteApp and is not compatible with SuiteTax.

If the SuiteTax feature is enabled in your NetSuite account, do not install the Supplementary Tax Calculation SuiteApp.

Tax Audit Files

Taxation ( Accounts without SuiteTax)

Generates an extract of general ledger data to a format that complies with government statutory requirements. Tax Audit Files SuiteApp is not compatible with the SuiteTax feature. If the SuiteTax feature is enabled in your NetSuite account, please do not install this SuiteApp.

SuiteTax Engine

Taxation (Accounts with SuiteTax)

For accounts with SuiteTax, the SuiteTax Engine sets default tax codes based on local tax requirements.

Tax Reporting Framework

Taxation (Accounts with SuiteTax)

For accounts with SuiteTax, the Tax Reporting Framework SuiteApp provides the Country Tax Reports page that enables you to generate tax reports required in Germany. The templates for these reports are provided by the Germany Localization SuiteApp.

EMEA Localization

  • Order Management

  • Taxation

Provides custom lists and custom fields to collect information that will be used to generate local tax reports. The EMEA Localization SuiteApp is a prerequisite of the Germany Localization SuiteApp.

Transaction Locking SuiteApp

Accounting

In certain countries, accounting regulations require you to lock transactions to prevent anyone from making changes to them. The Transaction Locking SuiteApp locks transactions by hiding the Edit and Delete buttons from specific transaction records.

Contra Account Sheet

Accounting

Enables companies to generate transaction records with contra account information.

Provides features that comply with accounting and financial reporting requirements or standards specific to Germany.

Germany Central Bank Reports SuiteApp

Beta version of Germany Central Bank Reports SuiteApp is currently available. This SuiteApp requires Germany Localization as a prerequisite. To comply with German accounting laws, several standard NetSuite financial reports have been customized. Germany Central Bank Reports SuiteApp enables you to track and report incoming and outgoing payments and generate reports in XML or PDF. Account Z4 is necessary.

Contra Account Sheet SuiteApp

Contra Account Sheet SuiteApp enables companies to generate transaction records with contra account information. Transaction records can be used by accountants for viewing the account balance or transactions.
