Importing Bulk Translation Content into Site Management Tools
In Site Management Tools (SMT), you can import new translations, update existing ones, or do both from the Translations tab in Overview Mode. For details, see Translations Tab User Interface. Content is imported as a draft to the correct language-specific domain so you can review it before publishing to your website.
Watch the following video for information about how to import translation content in bulk using SMT.
To import bulk translation content into SMT:
-
Log in to SMT. For details, see Log In.
-
Click Overview Mode.
-
Select the Translations tab.
-
Click Import.
-
When prompted, select the ZIP file you want to import.
Note:To import content successfully, make sure the ZIP file contains the XLIFF files directly (not in a subfolder).
-
Click Next.
-
When prompted, review the content on the Import Mapping Review window.
Important:If a file’s path or language isn’t found (based on the filename), the Import Mapping Review window will tell you. Click Next to continue. SMT will ignore the file name and get the import path and locale straight from the XLIFF file
-
Click Next.
-
Select from the following options to import translations:
-
Add New — Add any new translations only. This includes translation entries with no translations and existing translation entries with empty fields.
-
Update — Replace only existing translations.
-
Add or Update — Add new translations and replace existing translations.
-
-
Click Next.
-
When prompted, review the changes listed in the Import Confirmation window. This window displays the number of content blocks and pages that were updated and, if applicable, the number of stale translations. Stale translations indicate when content has changed since it was exported and that it may not match the translated text that was imported.
-
If required, click See report for details for more information about the imported content. This report identifies any stale content, displays errors for content that wasn't updated, and provides reference to the content in the default language for identification.
-
Click Done.
Now that you’ve imported the translations, review the content before publishing it to your site. If needed, you can manually update anything before publishing the content. For details, see Editing and Reviewing Bulk Translations in Site Management Tools.
Troubleshooting Tips for Importing Bulk Translation Content
This section gives you some helpful tips for solving issues when importing bulk translation content into SMT.
-
When you start an import, you need to select a ZIP file that has only the XLIFF files in the main directory. If you pick a ZIP file that includes a folder, the Import Mapping Review window will show an error.
-
Some computer-aided translation (CAT) systems might replace the XLIFF file header or change the locale. If these don't match, the target language may not be recognized. Make sure the header hasn’t been replaced and the locale isn’t set to a language-only identifier. For example, the locale for a file containing French Canadian translations should be
language=fr_CA
. -
Check the XLIFF file to make sure any target tag (<target>)) with an empty source tag is closed (</target>). If it’s not closed, the translation might not be recognized.
