Shift Assignment Assistant
The Shift Assignment Assistant helps Schedule Managers find the best worker for one open shift or a group of open shifts. Ask the assistant in natural language to find or rank workers for a shift, date range, department, job, or competency.
The assistant first checks whether workers are eligible for assignment. It then ranks eligible workers using Workforce Scheduling data, including:
- Work pattern match
- Availability and availability preferences
- Pending or approved absences
- Required hours and FTE impact
The assistant returns a ranked table that shows the total score, recommendation, and concise cautions. It identifies the strongest recommendation and explains the factors that most affected the ranking. You can request a worker-level drilldown when you need more detail about category scores, positive signals, or cautions.
Workers who are blocked by hard scheduling rules or an approved absence aren’t included in the score calculation. Depending on scheduling policy, blocked workers can be excluded from the recommendation or shown separately. Workers who remain eligible but have risks, such as a pending absence, unavailable preference, or over-FTE impact, display a caution.
For multiple open shifts, the assistant provides a ranked result for each shift or shift group, and identifies worker conflicts when the same worker is recommended for overlapping assignments.
Reduce the time required to compare worker availability, work patterns, preferences, absences, and FTE impact across potential assignments. Explainable recommendations help Schedule Managers make faster staffing decisions while balancing coverage needs and scheduling risk.
Steps to enable and configure
- Your environment must have the appropriate services for Oracle Applications Platform deployed. For more information, see FAQ2521 on My Oracle Cloud Support
- Enable the Enable Security Console External Application Integration profile option (
ORA_ASE_SAS_INTEGRATION_ENABLED
), and enable the appropriate permission groups for the required roles. - Deploy the delivered Workforce Schedule Assistant AI agent team template.
- Create a guided journey that includes the AI agent as a task.
- Add the AI agent to Redwood pages by using the guided journey. Consider adding it to the Workforce Schedules page.
Tips and considerations
- Eligibility is evaluated before ranking. Blocked workers aren’t averaged into the final score.
- The ranking score uses structured Workforce Scheduling data and deterministic weighted calculations. The assistant summarizes the returned recommendation.
- Required hours and FTE impact have the highest default weight because the score rewards assignments that move workers toward required hours and cautions when a shift moves a worker over the FTE target.
- A worker can remain eligible but receive a lower recommendation because of a partial work-pattern match, unavailable preference, pending absence, or FTE impact.
- The default response presents concise results. Request a drilldown when you need the detailed category scores and ranking drivers.
