Shipment Management

Split Shipment by Ship Units

This action is accessed via Shipment Management > Shipment Management > Buy Shipments or Sell Shipments. Select a shipment and click Actions > Operational Planning > Change Shipment Route > Split Shipment. Then choose Split Shipment By: Ship Unit.

Use this action to split a shipment by ship units. To split a shipment by ship units, there must be more than one ship unit on the shipment. Splitting a shipment by ship units results in a new shipment or order movement being created, with the ship units you have split out. After the ship units are split, you can make changes to the resulting shipment or order movement.

For more information on splitting shipments, see the split shipments example.

Use the following splitting options to create a new shipment or order movement.

  1. The Leave Unplanned check box controls whether you want to create a new shipment or order movement. If you select the check box, then order movements are created. If you do not select the check box, then new shipments are created.
  2. Split to Direct: For both Split Shipment By Ship Unit - Direct and Split Shipment By Order - Direct, OTM will split the selected shipment by ship units. In the Split Shipment By Order case, implicitly all of the ship units on the shipment for the selected orders are split off. The corresponding ship units on any downstream shipments or unplanned order movements will also be split off, and will then be removed. Downstream order movements will be removed if they contained only ship units corresponding to the split-off ship units. The split-off ship units for the current shipment will then be planned to the indicated destination location (if any), or to the order release destination location. The ship units will be planned on a shipment, or placed on an order movement if the Leave Unplanned option is chosen. The ship units (or orders) selected for splitting off must have the same source location on the shipment to be split, and must either have the same ultimate destination or be planned to a specified destination location.
  3. Select the Split to Parallel Shipment option button when, (in a cross-dock to pool leg), some or all orders are split-off and require the linking and unlinking of the orders from their related shipments. You can also specify the shipment onto which are splitting. For example, see shipment H, which represents the split-off orders, in the split shipment example. If you have the Leave Unplanned check box selected, then order movements are created instead of shipments.
  4. Split to Consol: This option is only available for consol shipments. Use this option to split off portions of the shipment to a consol. Select a consol and click OK. After the order is unassigned it is planned on a new shipment. You should tender the new shipment to a service provider.
  5. Optionally, you can change the current Transport Mode and Equipment Group for the new shipment if you want it to be different than the current shipment that you are splitting. If you do not change these values, the characteristics of the current shipment are used for the new shipment. These fields automatically default to the transport mode and equipment for the current shipment.
  6. You can specify the Split Off Amount. For each ship unit that you want to split from the existing shipment, enter a Split Off Amount.

Note: By default, the system displays equipment reference unit (ERU) details, if there are any ERU records present for the related shipment ship unit IDs.

Note: You can only split one shipment at a time; however, you can choose more than one ship unit to split.

Note: If you partially split a ship unit, the new shipment has to be a standalone shipment and it cannot have upstream or downstream shipments.

After you run this action, Oracle Transportation Management displays a list of the current ship units for the shipment including their weight, volume, ship unit spec, commodity, and count. You can also view the Shipment ship unit line details such as Packaged Item ID, Packaged Item Description, Packaged Item Count, Weight, Volume, and Tag information through a collapsible icon at each ship unit.
