Add a topic state

  1. In the left navigation pane, click the Settings icon (Settings icon).
  2. In the Configure System section, click Manage Topic Workflow Configurations.
  3. Click the Row Action menu (Row Action menu icon) for a configuration, and then click Manage Topic States.
  4. To add a topic workflow state, click Add State.
  5. Type the Name of the topic workflow state.
  6. Type the Description of the topic workflow state.
  7. In the Possible next states field, specify the states that users are able to assign to a topic in this state.
  8. To select a state, click Select States.
  9. To indicate that a state closes a topic when it is assigned, select This is a final state.

To work with a topic that is in a final state and visible to any work team, you must have the Reopen Topic work team permission, and a non-final state, such as Reopened, must be defined as a possible next state. You can then reopen the topic and change its current state to a non-final state before editing it further.

    Note:

The topic workflow configuration may also require that all of a topic's actions be in a final state before the topic itself can be assigned a final state. See Edit Workflow Configuration Options.

After you define the workflow states for topics and define the fields that store topic information, you should review the level of access assigned to each field and state. When you add a new state, by default every topic field is editable when the topic is in that state. You can modify the level of access for each field to hidden, visible, editable, or required for the new state.
