Financial Holds

Financial holds prevent financial transactions to which the hold applies from being included in financial messages (and therefore paid). Holds do not affect claim finalization or general financial processing. For example, even if a claim is on hold, finalization and general financial processing will occur as normal for the claim and claim transactions. Only including financial transactions for the claim in financial messaging will be blocked as long as the hold is active.

Recording of holds is done on the entity that best reflects the reason for the hold. For example, if a financial transaction is to be held because the bankaccount information needed to make a payment to a provider is not available, the hold would be recorded on the provider. Whenever the counterparty or payment receiver on a financial transaction detail is a provider on hold, this holds the financial transaction. This way, recording just one hold will both:

  • prevent all financial transactions waiting to be included in a financial message at the time the hold is recorded from being included in a financial message until the hold is released or expired.

  • prevent financial transactions created after the hold is recorded from being included in a financial message until the hold is released or expired.

A financial transaction is 'on hold' if there is an active hold on any of its related entities. A financial transaction could therefore be on hold for several reasons. Only when all of the holds have been released or expired can a financial transaction be included in a financial message. Releasing a financial hold, is subject to access restriction (see "User Access" chapter in the Security Guide for more detail).

If one financial transaction within a base financial object is on hold, all financial transactions for that base financial object are on hold.

The need to hold financial transactions can be recorded on:

  • Claim

When a financial hold is recorded on a Claim, all financial transactions that relate to that claim are blocked from being included in a financial message as long as there is an active financial hold on the claim.

  • Claim Transaction

When a financial hold is recorded on a Claim Transaction, that claim transaction is blocked from being included in a financial message as long as there is an active financial hold on the claim transaction.

  • Providers

When a financial hold is recorded on a Provider, all financial transaction details for which this provider is the counterparty or the payment benficiary, are on hold. Whenever one or more financial transaction details are held by an active financial hold, the whole financial transaction is considered to be on hold and therefore blocked from being included in a financial message.

  • Products

  • When a financial hold is recorded on a Product, all financial transactions that relate to this product are blocked from being included in a financial message as long as there is an active financial hold on the product.

Products relate to the lower level financial transaction detail (process data) level. Whenever one or more financial transaction details are held by an active financial hold, the whole financial transaction is considered to be on hold.

  • Financial Transaction Sets

When a financial hold is recorded on a Financial Transaction Set, it is not allowed to generate a financial message for a financial transaction set that has at least one active financial hold on the set.
