Currently, there are several different iOS devices with different resolutions. CRS-IUA provides an example of how a particular version of an image for a promotional content item can be chosen based on the screen resolution of the iOS device requesting that promotional content item. This example could also be applied or adapted to other iPhone or iPad devices at present or in the future.
There are two efficiencies to be gained from this type of device-to-image type mapping:
Higher resolution devices can be provided with higher resolution images, providing the end user with a better experience tailored to their device.
Lower resolution devices need not be provided with images having higher resolution than is required, thus conserving the bandwidth that would be used to send the higher resolution image.
