Creating a Compensation Plan Quota

You can create quotas for your organization using the Quotas view. Quotas can be selected for more than one plan, and multiple quotas can be associated with the same plan.

To create a new quota

  1. From the application-level menu, choose View > Site Map > Incentive Compensation Administration > Quotas.
  2. In the Quotas list, click New.

In the new quota record, the Display check box is automatically selected.

  3. In the Name field, enter a name for the new quota.
  4. In the Quota Type field, select either Amount or Quantity from the drop-down list.
  5. In the Performance Measure field, click the drop-down list and select the performance measure.

Options are Revenue, Units, Com Cred Rev (Commission Credit Revenue), or Quota Cred Rev (Quota Credit Revenue).

Your choice should be appropriate to the quota type you selected. See Configuring Incentive Compensation for information about configuring Quota Credit Revenue to create container records.

  6. Complete the remaining fields as necessary.

The following table describes the fields.

    Field
    Comments

    Cumulative

Select this check box if you want the quota amount to be cumulative over the measure period. The measure period type must be defined if the quota is used with the Quota-Setting Tool.

    Display

Select this check box if you want the quota to appear in the managers' and representatives' output views. The check box is selected as the default.

You can clear the check box while making adjustments to keep the quota from appearing in the output views, and then select the check box after adjustments are completed.

    Measure Period Type

Determines how often the quota attainment is calculated. Select Day, Week, Bi-Weekly, Month, Quarter, Half-Year, Year.

For example, a quota can be created for an annual quota target with a quarterly measure period. The quota target is set for the year and then spread across the four quarters.

Whenever the list of values is changed, it affects the compensation calculation. If it must be changed, you should check the calculated compensation amount in the Calculation Workbook.

    Name

    Name of the attainment.

    Performance Measure

Performance measure used to measure this quota. You can select Revenue, Units, Com Cred Rev (Commission Credit Revenue), or Quota Cred Rev (Quota Credit Revenue).

    Period

The period must be defined if the quota is to be used with the Quota-Setting Tool. It is a combination of Period and Measure Period Type that creates the quota spread. For example, if 2003 is selected for the Period and the Measure Period Type is a Quarter, then the quota target is spread over Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 of 2003. For this spread to occur automatically, the required periods must exist. Periods can be created in Application Administration > Periods.

    Quota Type

Type of quota. Select Amount or Quantity.

The Period and Measure Period fields must be specified when using the quota-setting tool. The Cumulative flag is used in conjunction with the Period and Measure Period Type.

For example, Table 27 illustrates how the quota target appears when the Quota Target is set to $100,000 (defined in Plan Quotas), the Period is 2003, the Measure Period Type is Quarter, and the Cumulative check box flag is not selected (set to False).

Q2 2003

Q3 2003

Q4 2003

However, if the Cumulative check box flag is selected (set to True), Table 28 shows how the quota target appears.

NOTE:  If you have plan rules that have associated plan rule quotas and a user changes the plan period, some dates are not automatically updated to match the new plan period.
