Net Change Transactions and the Transaction Workbook

If you are using Siebel Order Module for order entry, you can make changes to orders and automatically generate net change transactions in the Transaction Workbook.

About the Siebel Order Module

Siebel Orders module is the Siebel application's order entry and tracking system. Using Siebel Orders, you can track an opportunity from its initial stages through the sales and compensation life cycle. You can also import orders into the Transaction Workbook, maintaining records of the original transactions as well as the changes.

For more information about Siebel Order Module, see Siebel Order Management Guide.

About Net Changes

If you are using Siebel Orders module, you can employ Siebel Incentive Compensation to generate Net Change transactions when transactions are imported from the Orders module. New records are created in the Transaction Workbook to reflect the changes, which can include modifications in Order Status, Amount, Sales Credit Team, and so on.

You can define which order items are monitored. For example, if compensation rules do not include account filters, the account field on an order need not be monitored. However, if it is important to report or compute compensation based on account, changes to the account on an order must be tracked to create net change records and eventually report the correct totals by account.

When an order that has already been imported to the Transaction Workbook is changed, it is flagged as "needs reversal" and when the changed record is imported to Transaction Workbook, Net Changed records are created to back out previous Transactions of that order and create new records to represent the correct order attributes and line items. The result is three transactions in the Transaction Workbook—original, reversal, and corrected.

For example, on April 20, 2003, an order of 15 units is imported into the Transaction Workbook. On April 23, 2003, the same order is changed to 20 units. When the order change is imported, the existing transaction in the Transaction Workbook is backed out by applying -15 units, and a new transaction is created with the new Order amount of 20 units.

As Table 30 shows, both the Order Amount field of the Order OD1 and the Status Date have changed in the Orders Module, but it is still the same Order record. No new record is created in the Orders Module, only the values in the Amount and Status Date fields have changed. However, in the Transaction Workbook there are now three records associated with the order: the original order for 15 units, a back-out order for -15 units, and a changed order for 20 units.
