The gear request object encapsulates all information from a portal that a gear might need when the gear is rendered. The atg.portal.servlet.GearServletRequestImpl class implements the GearServletRequest interface. This single interface extends the GearContext, HttpServletRequest, PortalContext, PortalServletRequest, and ServletRequest interfaces and thus makes available all the applicable portal, gear, and request attributes, including:
