In this procedure, you download certificates that authenticate you to applications that require a smart card for access. You need the entire chain or hierarchy of certificates. To use the certificates, continue with How to Configure Firefox to Use Your Smart Card for Authentication and How to Configure Thunderbird to Use Your Smart Card for Signing and Encrypting Emails.
This example uses U.S. Government certificates. Other organizations should follow the directions of their security administrator to locate and install the certificates.
