Oracle Commerce Guided Search provides two methods for retrieving promoted Experience Manager content from the Workbench: a direct method, in which data is transferred via remote calls to the Workbench server, and a file-based method, in which EAC application data is published to the file system and retrieved from there. Oracle recommends using the file-based method for the Production server to increase performance. However, you must use the direct method of retrieving content for the Publishing and Staging servers in order for preview functionality to work.

If you do not explicitly configure the Oracle Commerce Platform to use a specific method of retrieving content, the direct method is supported by default. This chapter discusses how to modify a server’s configuration to support retrieval of file-based content instead.
