Using the Places Menu

The Places menu is a quick way to go to various locations on the computer and local network. Use Places menu to open the following items:

  • Home folder.

  • Desktop folder, which corresponds to the items displayed on the desktop.

  • Items in the file manager bookmarks. For more information about using bookmarks, see Using Bookmarks.

  • Local drives on the system.

  • CD/DVD Creator.

  • Local network. For more information about accessing network places, see Accessing Network Places.

The following items on the Places menu perform actions rather than opening locations:

  • Connect to Server – Enables you to choose a server on a network. For more information about accessing remote networks, see Accessing a Remote Server.

  • Search for Files – Enables you to search for files on the computer. For more information about searching for files, refer to the Search Tool Manual.

  • Recent Documents – Lists the recently opened documents. The last entry in this submenu clears the list.
