Installation-Related Changes for Siebel Innovation Pack 2015

The Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using, for Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, describes several product changes and requirements that affect your installation tasks and the overall flow of these tasks. See also all of the relevant references in What's New in This Release.

  • Documentation is for Siebel Innovation Pack 2015. The Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using is for installing the Siebel CRM software for Siebel Innovation Pack 2015. Siebel Innovation Pack 2015 is provided as a single release: Siebel CRM version 15.0. Installation for this version is similar to that for previous releases. You can install Siebel CRM version 15.0 as a new installation or as a migration installation.

    As used in this guide, the term current release generally refers to Siebel CRM version 15.0. This term might also refer to functionality that changed relative to previous releases or other functionality that is available in the latest release.

    Siebel CRM version 15.0 includes new functionality and the functionality from previous Siebel CRM version 8.1.1.x and version 8.2.2.x releases (including Siebel Innovation Packs or Siebel Fix Packs), through version 8.1.1.14 or version 8.2.2.14.

    Customers who had previously installed a Siebel CRM version 8.1.1.x or version 8.2.2.x release can install Siebel CRM version 15.0 as a migration installation. In a migration installation, you must also run Incremental Repository Merge, as described in Siebel Database Upgrade Guide.

    In release media or software contexts showing the Siebel CRM version number, the version is now represented as version 15.0 or as the version of a Siebel Patchset release. When a Siebel Patchset release has been installed, the version number of the installed software increments to Siebel CRM version 15.1, 15.2, and so on. Therefore, the term current release might also apply to Siebel CRM version 15.x, such as version 15.1, 15.2, and so on.

    NOTE:  Some of the functionality described in this guide is available only through the installation of Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, Patchset 5 or later. For more information, see the information that follows about changes to Siebel Patchset releases.

    Previous versions of the Siebel Bookshelf are still available. The Siebel Installation Guides for prior Siebel CRM version 8.1.1.x and version 8.2.2.x releases are available on My Oracle Support, at 1461732.1 (Article ID). For detailed information about the installation features of prior releases, see these earlier guides.

  • Changes to Siebel Patchset releases. It is strongly recommended that customers installing Siebel Innovation Pack 2015 also install the latest Siebel Patchset release, where available. Siebel Patchset releases are versioned 15.1, 15.2, and so on.

    Installers for Siebel Patchset releases, where available, now use Oracle Universal Installer software instead of opatch, and might include new capabilities not previously available. As with Siebel Innovation Pack 2014, the contents of each successive patchset release is cumulative. You must install Siebel CRM version 15.0 before installing any version 15.x patchset release.

    NOTE:  Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, Patchset 5 or later includes some optional features that involve changes to the Siebel Repository. These features are already included if you install a new Siebel database after installing Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, Patchset 5 or later. For an existing installation of Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, if you want to use these features, you must run Incremental Repository Merge after installing the patchset release. (If you have already run Incremental Repository Merge for Patchset 5 or later, then you do not need to run it again for subsequent patchset releases.)   • Updated Siebel Repository files are available. Updated Siebel Repository files (SRF files) are available for download from My Oracle Support. These updated SRF files correspond to repository updates in the Siebel database for Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, Patchset 5 or later (version 15.5 or later). For more information about obtaining and using these files, see Obtaining Updated Siebel Repository Files.
  • Oracle LDAP Client is integrated into the Siebel Enterprise Server installation. For the current release, Oracle LDAP Client is integrated into the Siebel Enterprise Server task for installing the Siebel Server or Siebel Gateway Name Server. This client is available for customers using LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) for authentication. Install it in this manner only for deployments with databases other than Oracle Database.   • Third-party JAR files are no longer needed for Siebel CRM installers. For the current release, Siebel Image Creator requires no third-party JAR files when you create the network image for Siebel CRM installers, as formerly applied in some Siebel CRM version 8.2.2.x releases.
  • Secure Sockets Layer is no longer supported. In the current release, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) version 3.0 is no longer supported for Siebel CRM, as a result of security vulnerabilities discovered in the design of SSL version 3.0. It is strongly recommended that you implement Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption for all applicable services and communication paths in a Siebel CRM implementation.   • Siebel File System encryption is supported. The current release supports the ability to encrypt Siebel File System attachment files. For more information, see Creating the Siebel File System.
  • The Siebel Repository includes migrated Siebel Web template data. In the current release, for a new Siebel database installation, the Siebel Repository now includes table-based data that was migrated from the default Siebel Web template files. For upgrades from prior releases, a migration script now migrates data from Siebel Web template files into table-based content in the Siebel database.

    The table-based Siebel Web template data is used by Siebel CRM Composer, which is available for preview purposes in the current release.     NOTE:  For Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, your existing deployment and usage of Siebel Web templates are unaffected by this migration.

  • jQuery Charts is available for charting. In the current release, you can optionally use jQuery Charts instead of NetCharts Server, for deployments using Siebel Open UI. For more information, see Enabling jQuery Charts.
  • Change in the software used with the local database used by Siebel Tools and for Siebel Remote, or used with the sample database used by Siebel Mobile Web Client.

    SAP SQL Anywhere is not available for new deployments after September 2015 and is no longer part of the product media for Siebel Innovation Pack 2015.

    NOTE:  For Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, the local database for Siebel Tools and the sample database for Siebel Mobile Web Client can use either SAP SQL Anywhere or Oracle Database XE. The local database for Siebel Mobile Web Client uses SAP SQL Anywhere. SAP SQL Anywhere is not available for new deployments after September 2015. For more detailed information on how this change affects Siebel Tools and Siebel Remote, see Siebel Release Notes on My Oracle Support for Innovation Pack 2015 (Doc ID 1996273.1).

    Existing customers (as noted in Siebel Release Notes) must use the version of Siebel Innovation Pack 2015 software that includes SAP SQL Anywhere and must not install software from a mix of both of these versions of Siebel Innovation Pack 2015 software.   • Oracle Database Express Edition (Oracle Database XE) is now available for local database for Siebel Tools and for Siebel Sample Database. When you install Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, Patchset 5 or later, you can install Oracle Database XE as the database platform for the local database for Siebel Tools or for the sample database for Siebel Mobile Web Client.

    You can install only one of these databases on the same computer: either the local database for Siebel Tools or the sample database for Siebel Mobile Web Client. Additional steps are necessary to prepare the local database for use by the Siebel Tools developer.

    NOTE:  For Siebel Innovation Pack 2015, the local database for Siebel Tools and the sample database for Siebel Mobile Web Client can use either SAP SQL Anywhere or Oracle Database XE. The local database for Siebel Mobile Web Client uses SAP SQL Anywhere. SAP SQL Anywhere is not available for new deployments after September 2015. For more detailed information on how this change affects Siebel Tools and Siebel Remote, see Siebel Release Notes on My Oracle Support for Innovation Pack 2015 (Doc ID 1996273.1).

    To install and use Oracle Database XE, you must have the 32-bit Oracle database client installed on the developer computer.
