Database text
The
program description deals with the following:
The
database texts are updated, i.e. modified, with this program. Normally, when
this program is called up texts appear in the fields of the update mask.
Database
texts are made up of the table name, the attribute and the name. The table name
and the attribute explain the database text: Branch_MaxGuestNo
only occurs once in the whole of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application.
Note:
- Key fields in which masks are identifiable
because they are bold and fields which are used in a number of screen
masks are not updated via this program.
- Fields in reports are updated with Form text.
Note!
- Do not
make any new entries and clearances. Only change texts (names, short
forms) but never Table name and Attribute.
- Changes only become applicable after an oscar init DbText
and an oscar
<file name>.fgl <Language>.
Example:
oscar Branch.fgl German (changes in
"Branch")
Only the database of the server is considered (in work.srv). Any existing client
databases (e.g. work1.srv, work2.srv etc.) are not updated, they
have to be cleared. New client databases are created automatically by the
system when the system is restarted. This operation can take some time -
depending on the processor capacity and the data volume.
Search for a text
- After selecting the Languages all table names, attributes, etc. can be displayed from a
click onto the search key (binoculars). This operation can take some time
because of the data volume. If the table name is known, change to the next
field (Table name), enter the name and then start the search function. The
system then only searches for the Attributes linked to the table
name.
- The quickest way is to enter Language, Table name
and Attribute directly.
The
following description deals with all available options for update of this basic
data.
As
with nearly all programs the following also applies here:
- The entry mask for this program
may differ in your MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application. Some data fields may be missing.
- There may be defaults or firmly defined selection
options for some data fields. These cannot be updated in the current
program.
- Fields with enforced entry defined are to be
found in the entry masks as are fields where entry is optional.
Entry range permitted: numeric 1 - 99
The
language is defined in this field. Enter the linked number. If the number is
not known, the data record can be selected with Search. If the language has not yet been programmed, change to update
program Language with the right-hand button and program the language.
If
the language required is not displayed, check the following:
- whether this language exists or
- whether the command oscar dofgl.fgl <Language>
has not been executed for the language chosen.
Note:
- Please note the information under search for a text when looking for table names and attributes.

The
table name, the (internal) file name, e.g. Branch
are displayed in this field.

setting under Language.

The
attribute is the internal field name (Branch_MaxGuestNo).
The field becomes obvious in conjunction with the table name. This only occurs
once in the whole of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application. Attributes are not shown in the
entry masks, the Name is displayed.

for attributes.
Entry range permitted: alphanumeric max. 32 pos.
When
the attribute is displayed it is accompanied by the name in the language
selected. The name is the text which is visible in the screen mask (example: Branch_MaxGuestNo).
Entry range permitted: alphanumeric max. 12 pos.
There
are some screen masks where not all fields can be shown in full because of the
volume of data (e.g. various selection windows). To ensure that an
"identifiable" name appears the system provides short texts which are
displayed.
